Weak at the knees

Society6
My legs are growing stronger but now, of all things, my knees are weak.  Is that a mysterious allegory for some life lesson?  I can't decide yet.  But guys, I've been trying to build more muscle tone in my legs and sometimes when I stand now, my knees wobble.  And I have to brace myself against the wall to stand up straight.  What in the world is going on, body?  If this is what aging is all about, I'm going to give up right now.  Oh wait, don't stop, don't give up.  Nevermind.

My knees and my legs have been trying to tell me for pretty much forever that they don't enough support from my feet (another weird allegory?).  At age 12, I bought a pair of black Nike Air Jordans (so cool) in a women's size 8.5 thinking I'd have the shoes for a few more years before I outgrew them.  And I am still waiting to grow into them.  Maybe my balance would be better if I had bigger feet, sturdier legs or stronger knees.  Maybe this is a way for me to not-so-subtly tell you that my foundation may not be as sound as I had originally thought.  Or maybe this is just a post about feet, knees and legs in the end.

I haven't decided.

  1. Shoes are a funny business! and can change after you have a baby- my shoes went from 8 to 8.5 after Nora. crazy huh? Sell the shoes on ebay and then treat yourself to a new pair. :)

  3. same here. I started to seriously (ha!)run again about five months ago, and while my legs are getting stronger, my knees are giving up. I don't run downhills anymore because it's too hard. fricking annoying. on the one hand I'm in better shape than ever, on the other hand I do feel that I'm getting older. this sucks!!

  4. It might be that as you're building muscle above and below your knees, they might be weak in comparison, especially under the weight of more muscle. There should be exercises you can do to strengthen and stretch the muscles and tendons that support your knees. I know there are several exercises in yoga that help my knees (which are weak and prone to injury). But yeah, weak knees suck. Hope you figure out how to fix what's up with them!

  5. Be a weeble. Wooble, but don't fall down. This is a Daria-esque post. I can imagine her looking for the life lesson in his. But I think it's just that each of us have a troublesome part of the body. For me it's lungs. Daria would say I shouldn't have let that girl kiss me when I was 14--and she'd be right...that was a great life lesson.

Darn, maybe there is a lesson in your knees. But please do get the best medical advice you can on them. (FYI, "Cute knees" is not medical advice, unless it comes from a hunky doctor. :)

  6. You might just need knee support when you ride, Rooth:)

  7. The weeble wobble comment above made me choke on my tea. Brilliant! I'd get checked out by a physical therapist or knee doctor (do those exist??) if you're feeling that wobbly though! It might be better to be neurotic about something like this, but that's just my other mantra for life ;)

  8. i would imagine your ligaments are getting a little stretch. so i agree with the knee support while riding. that can really pull on your knee joints! i have had knee surgery due to stretched out ligaments. no fun!

ps leg lifts with your knee to the ceiling.

  9. It's a sign your muscles are tired. I usually get wobbly after a long run and at night I lift my legs in the air like what Christine said :p It really works. It gets everything flowing again. But I do hope whatever remedy you're trying, it works!

  10. Really, a good kiss is the only thing worthy of weak knees--wouldn't you agree? Needless to say, I'm totally going to sound mumsy, and suggest that professional opinion if it doesn't go away soon. Better safe than sorry, non?!

  13. I don't like the idea of you wobbling. Getting stronger, yes. Wobbling, no. Check on that, will you?

  14. I really hope you still have those shoes and wear them proudly! I agree about the knee exercises. Perhaps you could find an adorable personal trainer to help with that.
