There and back again

Happy Memorial Day!  I hope that you're taking some time today to honor the service men and women of your country, regardless of where you are.

My body is pretty much beat to hell after the last few weeks of travel and not being able to adapt to the different time zones.  In Tahoe, the high elevation just killed me as far as sleep and I woke up at least three times throughout each night.  Getting back to Central time zone last night, my body was shocked into another two hour acceleration.  Couple this with the anxiety that has been building for the last few months, I'm starting to think that I'm going to feel and look permanently tired this summer.  Do you all have any relaxation techniques?  I'm feeling particularly zen at the moment and am considering exploring meditation.  I'm not sure how to go about starting that so if you have any tips, I'd be glad to hear them.

I thought I'd share one of the snaps from the wedding reception this weekend as well.  I ended up going with a reddish/orange dress and it worked out really well.  Very simple and very comfortable.  I may have had a little too much fun in it - but hey - weddings are a celebration!

I'm the one without a drink in her hand - not for long!

  4. You look so beautiful! Travelling makes my body so tired too. I find I have to give myself a day to do nothing to recover, otherwise I get sick. I hope you don't wear yourself out!

  6. Pretty dress! Sorry you're feeling jet-lagged. Going east across the globe always takes it out of me more than going west does. Simple relaxing & meditation? I'd recommend just starting out with a few minutes where you sit Indian style in comfortable clothes (with or without low key music, up to you), close your eyes, and just focus on breathing for a while. Breathe in, breathe out. Feel your belly swell and empty, your lungs expand and deflate. Practice noticing the air going in and out of your nose and notice how the air makes you feel lighter. That usually helps me. :) Good luck!

  7. I hope you can relax soon. I don't have any good tips for being relaxed. This month has been a constant state of stress for me as well! At least I didn't have to thrown travel to a different time zone into the mix. : )

  8. Ooh, you look so lovely!

As for stress, I find breathing helps. When overwhelmed I just sit there and take a deep breath in, and then a breath out--'in with the good, out with the bad'--over and over again. It sounds completely ridiculous, but there it is. :)

  11. That dress looks gorgeous on you!

I had issues with stress, exhaustion, etc. when I was studying for the bar and tried all kinds of things to help myself relax. The most helpful things were yoga and surrounding myself with relaxing lavender scents. I had lavender incense and put a little lavender oil on my pillow case. I also started sleeping with an eye mask to block out every bit of light.

  12. Belated Happy Memorial Day! It's important to observe the spirit of the day and honor service members.

I'm not sure how Frodo recovered after his trip there and back again, but I think it involved lots of good food and rest...and maybe a little elf magic. =) (If the title wasn't a Tolkien reference I'm really going to be embarrassed!)

  13. I always find that drinking loads of water, and sleeping a lot helps to combat jetlag of any sort! That is such a lovely red dress on you too! xx
