We are deep in the throes of the holiday season and I haven't written. Thanksgiving sailed by and by the beginning of December, I had the Christmas trees are up, shopping done, and presents wrapped.
Usually, I'm busy with Thanksgiving planning in the months leading up to the holiday, particularly practicing pie baking. Luckily, my sister and her husband are in Dallas and she is the Pie Queen. She made three beautiful and delicious pies for Thanksgiving. This year, we've been busy with managing my mom's house and dealing with my dad's stroke situation. Clearly this holiday season is different for everyone because of COVID but doubly so because of my dad's condition.
First let's talk about Dad. He's been at the rehab facility for almost 2 months now and is doing really well. He's made significant progress since he was admitted, able to walk more steps and stand for longer periods of time. He still needs quite a bit of assistance but he's diligently working at becoming more independent. We're also able to visit him (finally) although we have to talk through a plexiglass barrier, which is frustrating. He is keen on coming home and it's heartbreaking to tell him that he's got to stick it out in therapy as long as possible.
My sister and her husband have been in Dallas since early October and are planning on leaving sometime after the holidays. They've been a great help to my mom but the living arrangements have been trying on everyone. The dog cousins are used to each other by now. Honestly, they're the ones who have the most fun when we're all together.
I wanted to drop this quick note to see how everyone's doing and do a belated welfare check on everyone in the blogging space. This year has been difficult for many people for a variety of reasons and we're not out of the woods yet. I want to hear what you've been up to, how you've been coping, and what you're looking forward to this holiday season!
