Strange times
This is the strangest summer that I can recall in my history of Texas summers. We had constant rain - weeks and weeks of rain in May. The weather was COOL in May and the beginning of June. As in too cool to wear shorts in the morning. As in so cool that we only turned the A/C on one time (and fried the breaker box, nevermind that). And now that we're back from our summer trip to Michigan, it's hot. Hot enough to swallow up all of the power in the state. Hot enough that we wondered if it was ever cool in Texas.
My dad has been home 1.5 months now! It seems like the longest time but also the shortest. There have been growing pains (boy howdy) but my parents have both adapted to the change a lot quicker than I thought they would have. They have had a lot of help - my cousins, my sister and her husband, all of their friends have pitched in and encouraged my dad, bought supplies, and supported my mom. It truly does take a village, and I'm glad of the village that we have.
In the most depressing of news, we are returning to the office in early July and I'm not looking forward to it. Working from home has been really efficient and nice and I'm determined to find a way to keep the flexibility.
Its been a very short update, and I hope that you all are doing well. Enjoy the sun and warmth and stay safe and healthy!
Thank you for the update, Ruth:) That's so awesome to hear your parents have such a great support system. And stay safe (and cool) as well. XOXO
ReplyDeleteMy parents are really fortunate - so far, so good!
Deleteugh on returning to work. WHY people why. So many of you are being forced into the office again. My new job is being really really good about it and still allowing people to work anywhere from 1-3 days home each week. I of course am remote but I apprecate a business that realizes we can get shit done at home. SO glad your dad is doing okay and you had your trip etc. I apologize for the heat it is probably coming from TENN. We had the spring and now we have august weather in June. NOT IMPRESSED! :) Keep blogging :)
ReplyDeleteReturn to work is really dumb and making a lot of people upset - we'll see if we have a general revolt in July. I'll try to be better about the blogging - need to have a space to process emotions / progress / etc!
DeleteWFH is amazing and I wish more employers would jump on board! It definitely improves my morale but I know it doesn't help everyone. I am glad your extended family has been able to lend a hand with your dad and both your parents are adapting and improving!
ReplyDeleteIt improves my morale as well and generally puts me in a better mood during the work day - hopefully more employers start taking that into consideration
