Some awkward illness

etsy
Folks, I've succumbed to the flu / cold / whatever is floating around out there.  I swear, it must have transmitted by fiber optic cable because I typically don't see anyone during the day.  Whatever it is, it's got to be the oddest illness ever.  Usually, I'll run a fever and then suffer the symptoms for a week afterward.  This time, I have a negative fever*.  My temperature is 0.5 to 1.0 degrees lower than it usually is, which is already pretty low.  I'm not quite sure what this means and with my catastrophic health insurance coverage, I'm a little hesitant to find out what it is.  I've been self-medicating with lemon and ginger tea and gypsy cold tea but the only thing it's doing is keeping me hydrated and tethered in a 50 foot radius to a bathroom.  I also tried to 'run' the illness away yesterday, which did not work.  Any homeopathic remedies that you all have found effective?

*Like my made up medical diagnosis?

  2. My wife is suffering too. I think it may be either allergies to a certain type of mold or juniper (cedar). Hope you feel better. -GC

  4. I'm sorry you're under the weather. I hope you're doing everything you can to keep warm. I'm feeling sick too, but not as bad as you. I felt a cold coming on, so I added a little peroxide to my Scope. I gargled, then swished for about 30 seconds. I think it helped. I still got sick, but not as bad as I thought.

    Hope it passes quickly.

  5. Oh, I hope you feel better soon, it must be terrible to not be able to find out what it is due to health insurance coverage - I can't imagine that! When I get hit with a cold a Hot Toddy sorts me out: One shot of whisky, two teaspoons of honey, juice of half a lemon. Put all in a heat-resistant glass and top with boiling water. Drink whilst hot and you will literally feel the temperature rise in your body and sweat out any illness ;-) xo

  6. Oh no! I hope you feel better soon. Chicken broth works wonders if you can manage to make some.

  7. Ugh. That sounds really awful. I’ve had a weird bug this winter too, constant tiredness, weird temperature etc. I spent a weekend in bed, resting and self-medicating with smoothies, vitamins and lots of sleep and feel much better already? I’d also like to second the comment of chicken broth, even if it doesn’t cure your bug, you are sure to feel better?

  10. Oh no! What a weird cold to make your temp drop. There's definitely something going around, which makes me happy that I work from home this winter instead of in an office, though I hope I don't catch what you have fiber optically. :)

As far as remedies, I second the Hot Toddy comment except I usually add green tea to mine instead of just boiling water. I also drink a lot of Emergen-C when I'm feeling under the weather. Those two, along with rest, seem to do the trick for me. Hope you're feeling better soon!!

  15. So weird that your temp dropped! I hate that insurance companies make us fear having to use them. Drives me crazy!

  16. Hope you feel better soon, Rooth! ((hugs))) Funny you wrote this coz I did see a lot of peeps getting sick on social media! Lately, I've been doing drops of Oil of Oregano which do seem to help.

  17. Hope you feel better soon! The weather has been so strange lately, that everyone I've been around has been feeling under the weather :(

Can I recommend staying under the covers and just reading? I always brew some tea, and make a cup of chicken soup, Vietnamese style with a lot of ginger and ginger. My mom swears by the Vicks vapor rub, which also does the trick whenever I get a stuffy nose.

  18. Try adding some honey to your tea as well. And lots of vitamin C of course. Feel better lady!

  19. Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, Rooth. Something is definitely going around, and it's nasty! For mine, I resorted to lots of OTC medication. For a more homeopathic route, get lots of rest/sleep. Feel better soon!

  20. Mega vitamins, and +1 to the ginger tea. And sleep! I have had the same recently and it's super miserable. Hang in there! xx

  21. Oh no- I'm so sorry to hear how bad you're feeling. And I can totally understand while you'd be hesitant to go to the DR. I hate when I go in feeling like death only to hear "...well, it's a cold so there's nothing really to do but wait it out...That'll be $35 please"
Ginger is my go-to, so I say stick with that. And no running, get as much sleep/rest as possible. I hope you'll feel better soon!

  22. oh my! take care of yourself. sometimes it's nice to be forced to lie low for a while?... and sometimes it's just the pits.

is there anyone who does NOT loathe insurance companies? seriously, they are rotten.

    well wishes!

  23. Feel better soon! I have been nursing my cold so long I bought myself some immune systems boosters at Whole Foods...

  24. Oh dear . . . there's some wretched bugs floating about out there.

It seems like once it hits you've got to wait it out . . . with vitamins, orange juice, and sleep . . . maybe a good book until the hot tea and whiskey kicks in, you know, just for good measure.

    Feel better soon!
