Hill Country Ranchette
Spring time turns all of us equestrians into optimists. "Oh the weather's so nice, I bet I could keep my horse at home" and all of that nonsense. We forget about living in a scorched earth state, where the bugs and reptiles are the size of dogs. Realtors are clever folk and start listing flower-filled properties with warm, happy animals grazing on lush grass around this time. It looks peaceful and quiet. And smells (in our mind) like spring without even a hint of manure.
So it's around this time of year that this 10 acre property outside of Austin, Texas in Dripping Springs start to look a lot like "home." It has an 11 stall horse barn with wash bays, tack room, laundry room, and storage / viewing room and a 125 x 250 ft sand arena. The property backs up to a seasonal creek and has plenty of paddocks and sheds for your ponies. You can even live on-site in a cute little 1700 square foot farm house, with an open floor plan downstairs with the living and kitchen area. Countryside living with Austin within an hour drive? Sounds pretty perfect for our crew.
Now, I only need it to never get above 90 degrees, with dependable rain fall, and zero bugs and snakes ever. And also a job that allows me to work remotely. That's not too much to ask for, right?

I need this house to go on airbnb so I can still there! The inside is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteI really like that big great room!
DeleteDefinitely not too much to ask for, Ruth:D And seriously...this type of houses....it's almost unreal to me, living here in Toronto, that such homes exist, you know? I'm so jealous! No to the bugs though.
ReplyDeleteEmmy, you would be ASTOUNDED at all the bugs that live here
DeleteIf you buy it I call dibs on visiting!! :) Though I remember Dripping Springs as very dry and arid and rocky. Surprised it has that much land there....CUTE barn and house...:) I wouldnt say no to it :)
ReplyDeleteThe fact that it has a "seasonal" creek is probably testament enough to how dry it is. Flash flooding - oh goody!
DeleteWow!! I would move to Texas for that place! Granted I live in Florida which is just a slightly greener version of what you described and comes complete with crazy heat, lots of snakes, bugs, and alligators.... Definitely makes owning a farm an adventure!
ReplyDeleteSnakes, bugs and gators - no thanks. Although we do have two out of the three up here in North Texas
DeleteI love their hardwood floors
ReplyDeleteBest thing about floors like that? They don't show dirt!
DeleteWow, this ranch is beautiful, and I'm loving that it is on 10 acres! Though I remember all the bugs and snakes when I was living in Austin. When we had a house there, we would get scorpions and red headed centipedes invading our space all the time...very scary!

I forget how much I hate doing things outside once it gets hot. And believe it or not, it's getting hot out now!
DeleteYou only need it to never get above 90 degrees, with dependable rain fall, and zero bugs and snakes ever... I hear ya.
ReplyDeleteRight? I'm not asking for too much...
DeleteRemote jobs are the way of the future. It's coming...but in, like, 10 years?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait for it...
