Even though it meant going back to work (for me), we were all relieved to get back into a normal routine this week. All of our Christmas decorations and lights have been taken down, it’s truly the New Year and we’re halfway through January already! I have a feeling this year is going to be fast and furious.
Bryan’s home this weekend and we’ve been tackling some painting projects that we have saved for a crappy winter day. We’ve been painting the master bedroom closet that we hacked a few months ago, as well as our mint green laundry room. Now it makes a lot more sense why we hired people a few weeks ago to paint our family room. That being said, there is a certain sense of pride and accomplishment in the soreness you feel in your shoulders and back. I’ll post before and after pictures once we get all of the clothes back into it but here’s a picture of our only main painting casualty.

Along with the home improvement project “theme” for the last few weeks, I’ve also been obsessed with interior decor lately. Maybe it’s the clearing out of all of the holiday decorations and realizing that our home is still not fully done. Or potentially it’s because we’ve already lived here for 1.5 years and I’m ready to freshen things up. In my perusing of the interwebs, these are a few favourites that I’ve run into along the way.
This coffee table by Stoffer Homes made in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm on an oak kick and love how simple yet modern this looks
This bed by Marrow Design in Portland, OR. Who doesn't love the simple lines and classic "with a twist" design?
This bookcase by Croft House out of Los Angeles. I can't deny that I'm a sucker for a nice large bookcase and this one certainly fits the bill. I've got to replace trusty old IKEA bookcases someday, right?
Lest you think it's all about the home this week, one of my non-interior decor recommendations for you all is Meateater, a show on Netflix starring Steven Rinella. To be clear, I am not a hunter nor do I come from a hunting family background. On the other hand, Bryan is from Michigan and grew up in a strong hunting culture. In any case, for non-hunters, the show is a good introduction to the sport and what it’s all about. The host Steven Rinella exhibits a strong sense of stewardship of the land, responsibility and respect for your environment and the animals that you kill. On some hunts, he’s unsuccessful and his producers are not shy about showing the amount of work and time goes into the few seconds of excitement. I checked out both his cookbook and memoir from the library. Having flipped through his cookbook already, I highly recommend it if you are or know a hunter and want some different recipes for wild game. Bryan doesn’t get an opportunity to hunt or fish as often in Texas, however when he does AND if he’s able to get anything, we’ll make sure to try them out.
I say you should buy all those pieces of furniture as wedding gifts to yourself!
