EOW No. 14 (sorta)

By now, y'all know how things go - an end of the week blogpost becomes a beginning of the next week blogpost.  Spring is trying so desperately to spring.  Bryan's parents made their annual snowbird migration down to Texas and are now safely ensconced in the warmth and humidity of Padre Island.  They typically spend more time with us in Dallas, but this year waiting to get both COVID shots delayed their travel plans.  Also on that note, I'm excited hearing about more people getting the vaccines.  My mom got her first shot a few weeks ago and we'll be taking her to get her second one soon.  Work is making rumblings about going back into the office, which I am NOT excited about hearing.

While Bryan's parents were here, Bryan and his dad completed one house project that I've been talking about for two years - installing a chandelier over the dining room table.  There's no existing light fixture there so they had to the run the electrical themselves.  I was convinced that any second, I'd see Bryan's lower body dangling through a gigantic hole in the ceiling.  Even though it took two days for them to finally figure out the wiring (old houses that have been renovated have a lot of weird things going on), we got the light up!  Ain't she a beaut???

Don't they look so proud lol

Like all good quarantiners, I've taken some time this past year to work on refining my skincare regimen.  I discovered the clean brand CocoKind and have tried both the sea kale clay mask and the resurfacing sleep mask.  Both have resulted in brighter and clearer complexions for my dry skin.  I ordered from their website but I've heard you can also pick up their products at Target and Whole Foods.

If you're a stationery fiend, you've undoubtedly heard about the drama around Paper Source recently declaring bankruptcy, right after they placed and received large orders with many small stationery makers.  These small businesses have shipped their orders are out and are not sure when / if their outstanding invoices with Paper Source will get paid, which is a make-or-break scenario for many of these businesses.  If you like greeting cards, cool pens, stickers, notebooks, please check out the following list of some of my favourite stationers.

Calliope Paperie

Ladyfingers Letterpress

Steel Petal Press

And lastly, one small thing that I've done this past week is put my yoga mat next to my desk.  When I get a break from telephone calls, I'll stretch out and do some sun salutations.  It reminds me how bad my posture is while I'm working and also how tight my muscles get from sitting still for such a long period of time.  There's also the unintended consequence of doing multiple chaturangas during the day.

Tell me about the things that you're loving during this most pleasant time of year!

  1. I've got my first vaccine appointment today (yay!) and my husband and most of his family is fully vaccinated -- now just need to get my mom in! That chandelier is lovely. Keeping your yoga mat by your desk is a genius idea. Once I get a more permanent situation set up (because it looks like a hybrid involving mostly remote work with occasional days in office is in my future), I should do that!

    1. Oh yay - glad you got an appointment already! Hoping your mom is able to get one soon as well.

I don't know why I didn't think of the yoga thing earlier. It's a good visual reminder to get up away from my desk as well.

  3. that light looks fantastic. OMG at least your hubby not color blind like mine? Mark has to ask me colors of wires if he does any electric work. HA! And Mark gets his first one tomorrow my dad gets his 2nd in early April and I just need to find time to schedule mine in with work and life in general!! It has been 70s here tho we have bad weather (AKA chance of Tornados etc) tomorow and a cool front coming through but the bugs are already out so i wont mind if it gets a bit chillier at nite again a bit. I am thankful horses are shedding but find that wearing a mask helps with that so yay a shiny lining?? HA it was a lot of dust and hair flying around brushing my horse :) Also I should put a yoga mat by my desk, I often get up hours later crippled. UGH Good luck with all the vaccinating!!

    1. Surprisingly, we haven't had any mosquitoes yet. I'm not sure how much longer that's going to last. It's been major shedding time at the barn, but luckily they're blanketed all winter so there's not THAT much hair. Hope you get your vaccine soon!
