EOW No. 11

To think I forgot about my End of the Week posts from before the world fell apart!  It feels like a terribly long time ago that I last wrote one of these.  In spite of everything, we are at yet another weekend (thank goodness).  I am grateful to live in a world where weekends keep coming, regardless of what the week throws at them.

I was able to get to the barn again on Wednesday night.  Everything felt a lot more comfortable this time compared to last week.  We did some sitting / no stirrup trotting, which was much more manageable than trying to post.  Walking is also a lot easier now and my foot is less and less swollen every day.

Since we’ve arranged the home office with the new desk position, I haven’t had the best sitting posture in the kitchen chair I’m using.  I tweaked my neck / back and it’s taken me the full week for it to feel sort of back to normal again.  I’ve been on the hunt for a new non-ugly desk chair and found the regular furniture stores to be lacking in that department.  Because the office isn’t closed off from the rest of the house, it needs to match the rest of our furniture without looking too office-y while still providing lumbar support and all that good stuff.  If anyone has good desk chair recommendations, let me know!

Last weekend, I baked these lemon crinkle cookies.  There’s something about lemons that screams summer, right?  And I’ve been in the mood for lemons all month.  Every time Bryan goes to the grocery store, I have him pick up a bag of limes and lemons.  They’re perfect for cocktails or making fresh lemonade too.

Powell's bookstore in Portland
If you’ve got one thing to shop for this weekend, make it used books from Powell’s.  They’re running a 30% off used book promotion through June 1st and they ship for free for all orders over $25.  I’ve ordered both books - new and used - and puzzles from Powell’s at least three times so far during the quarantine.  It’s saved my sanity since the library is still closed.  Shop small y’all.

  1. Sorry to hear about your discomfort! I hope you find a supportive chair! I used to work from home once a week before everything happened - now I'm always working from home and never in the office, ha! So I had to get a chair that met all these health and safety requirements. I think we actually got it from Ikea, but it is a pretty drab office chair looking thing, luckily it's tucked away in the study, haha!

Hope you are having a great weekend :) We celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday, just at home with takeaway but it was nice :)

  2. It's pretty hard to find a good desk chair that doesn't look... utilitarian. I got mine from Costco so it might be worth looking there to see what you think.

    1. I've had such a hard time finding one that doesn't look like I just stole it from the office. I'll give Costco a look!

And yay for baking:) Remember to send some over if you have any leftovers.
PS I so wish we have Powell's here.

    1. I can't believe it's this difficult to find an office chair. We've been doing a lot of reading lately and I think the library is planning to open up soon!

  5. I was amazed by the Powell bookshop that provided used books. The shape of the building is made luxurious. In my country, bookstores as beautiful as that only sell new books. Used books are only sold at simple market stalls.

  7. One of my favorite baked flavours is lemon! Lemon pond cake, lemon meringue pie yum yum!
These crickle cookies looks very crunchy and delicious c:
I'm happy to read that you recover and that your walking is getting better as well.
I hope you find the rightful stylish desk chair! Too bad the free shipping at Powell's does not apply to
international shippings which is also quite understandable. Xx

    1. I am not as clever as you are or else I would be baking lemon meringue pie. Such a summery dessert!

  8. I miss the beforetimes! For an office chair, try Herman Miller. I'm using a Mirra2 I got from an old job that let us take ours home when they purchased new chairs. Not all of them are super ugly and they'll be good for you to sit in all day. They're just really expensive.

    1. I ended up getting a chair - looks similar to Herman Miller. It's been a lot better so far. Thanks for the recommendations Jeanine!
