Just some spring things

Howdy howdy! How is spring treating everyone?

We have had several very hot days already, which are frightening because is this a precursor of how the summer is going to be?  Are we truly to be maxxing out our AC units in March / April?  My always-cold hands shudder at the thought.  The one happy thing about warm, warm weather is that we've moved the majority of my plants back outside again.  The succulents have all fared rather well during the winter and I suspect they'll explode now that they're outside in more sun.  I am keeping my improved meyer lemon bush inside though.  It was gnawed on by grasshoppers last summer and baked in the heat.  When I brought it in for the winter, it rewarded me by flowering almost immediately and as of this post, has some very cute small green lemons ripening on its branches.  It must be a sign of middle age to be so tickled by ones houseplants.

A construction company is currently tearing down a 70 year old house across the street.  Denizens of the entire neighborhood are gathered on the opposite lawn, watching it all happen, some with lawn chairs.  Moms with strollers have circled the blocks and returned many times - the kids cannot get enough of the heavy machinery.  The demolition of this house is better than a parade.  They knocked the entire structure down yesterday in less than an hour and now they're scooping all the rubble into dump trucks.

(Is it fair to call the heart of a structure older than I am "rubble"?)

We've all already done our relevant internet searches.  The construction company is known for putting up enormous houses (you know the kind, the big white ones with big windows in the front), completing the construction at blinding speed and flipping it for a profit as soon as they're able.  Bryan's mom lamented the destruction of an old brick home on a pier and beam foundation with original wood floors and charming landscaping.

For all the griping about these Giant White Houses, there no way I can ignore the rationale.  The house that was knocked down was less than 1,500 square feet, with two bedrooms and one bathroom.  Our neighborhood is zoned to the most desired elementary school in the city.  I can't see any modern family squeezing into that space in Texas.

Such is the path of progress, which is the watchword of spring I guess.  Progress, rebirth, growth.  Enjoy the brightening days, encroaching warmth, and allergies my friends!
