Hey nommy nommy

When my sister was in town last week, I cooked like a FIEND.  On the left is the roasted chicken with dijon a la I Am A Food Blog and risotto with arugula.  To the right are braised Asian short ribs, which I cooked in my Staub instead of a slow cooker.  Both delicious and crowd pleasers.  Couple that with a tub of Blue Bell Cookies and Cream and another tub of Christmas in July and I think I have to buy some new pants.  Can you buy pants with a velcro waistband?  Elastic just isn't cutting it anymore.

I've also been working on my bread baking skills with the help of Artisan Bread in Five Minutes.  This is a no-knead recipe that allows you to store dough in your fridge for up to two weeks and bake fresh bread in five minutes every day!  Sound too good to be true?  Although mixing the ingredients and going through the baking process was not as touchy as I typically experience when baking bread, I still have a lot of work to do with regards to forming the boule.  Like my knife slashes in the dough?  I swear I didn't mean to make it look like a marijuana plant.  The loaf came out a little more compressed in the middle than I typically like.  I've baked a second loaf that's sitting on my kitchen counter; I'm afraid to break into it as I ate the first loaf in two days.  Le sigh.

  3. I definitely want to check that bread out. That's funny that when your sister comes in town you cook like a fiend, I am opposite. When company comes, it means no cooking-- eating out every night!

  4. You're quite the chef! Not many people get food like that at home...your sister really lucked out.

I've never tried Christmas in July, I'll have to look for that. Although, the last thing I need is a new, delicious, ice cream flavor. Well, maybe I can find a pair of high-waisted bicycle shorts to compensate. ;)

  5. I wish I could cook or would not be to lazy to cook. But my husband who is a great cook is an enabler and cooks for us almost everyday ;) Love to eat though! :)

  6. Oh my god. I'm such a fatty when it comes to bread, haha. Love the stuff! Yours looks really good, too. Very yummy! My husband bakes his own bread all the time.... once you have home-made bread, it's really hard buying it from the grocery store! :)

  16. Your loaf looks fantastic! Wow. I have a lot of trouble getting the slash marks. I use a really sharp long knife but it always seems to be a struggle. I'll bet your family is tickled pink by your cooking. Isn't baking bread a wonderful thing?

  29. Gorgeous bread and awesome food! After being away for a few days, it feels so good to be back in my kitchen again. We were invited out to dinner last night, but we turned down the invitation. It felt so good just to be home. Eating home food. Don't tell my son, though.
