I never hear the word "Escape"

I never hear the word "Escape" by Emily Dickinson

I never hear the word “Escape”
Without a quicker blood,
A sudden expectation –
A flying attitude!

I never hear of prisons broad
By soldiers battered down,
But I tug childish at my bars
Only to fail again!

  1. is it cliche to say that Emily Dickinson is one of my most favorite poets ever? of all time. in the universe. no? okay, good, because she is.

  2. Lovely. I'm embarrassed to say I've read a lot less Emily Dickinson than I should have. xo

  3. I can never read Emily Dickinson without thinking *about* Emily Dickinson and her life. I haven't decided if that's good or bad.

  4. Fits my mood perfectly right now.
