Going over to the dark side

So... I'm going to do the cowardly thing and blame my lack of blogging presence so far this summer on technical difficulties.  My personal laptop has been inching toward a slow death since winter and finally hit that point a few months ago when it was unable to load a website within 15 minutes.  After an attempt to purchase a PC a few weeks ago and receiving a dead wifi adapter right out of the box, I decided to make the switch.  Yes, I've been shunning Apple computers for decades and yes, it makes me a big fat hypocrite now because I just want a computer that is fast and works.  I'm relearning all the hot keys as we speak (ugh) but small price to pay for something functional (I'm keeping my fingers crossed on that one).  Day one and I'm back to reading all your blogs and blogging again so that can't be all that bad, right?  Who knows, maybe these Apple people do have something figured out after all.

Since I've been silent (but not really gone), what I've been doing instead is reading all of the science fiction books, eating all of the TexMex, and sweating out all of the beer I've been drinking by the pool.  By my count, I've eaten nachos - fully loaded, guacamole heavy, substantial nachos, mind you - once a week since mid-June and I regret none of it.  The best part is that this is Texas, and I haven't even scratched the surface of nacho-eating.  This topic may be deserving of a post all on its own, come to think of it.

I've been gone for weeks and my closing note is going to be about food.  How terribly normal of me.

Really though, I've spent the evening catching up on all of your blogs and reading the stories that go behind the IG pictures you've been posting over the past few weeks (congrats to Stephanie and Jillian on your respective new babies).  I'm still here and with my new 'puter, I plan on being here much more often.

  8. ah that's what's happened. my macbook actually is being a real pain in the butt lately - i've had it for only 5 years but i probably downloaded and installed a bunch of things i don't need and didn't maintain it properly. i've heard others have had theirs for 10+ years and they still go strong!

  9. Old cranky computers are the worst!! I used an apple computer once for work and it froze fairly regularly. I did just order myself a new gaming laptop so I can put all my design programs on it, I hope I have better luck when it arrives. :)

  11. Glad to hear you fixed your computer problems!! I love my mac and all I can do with it...and then I remember everything I do at work just because my mac isn't compatible. Sigh :/

  12. I have always been an Anti-Mac before because it was a pain re-learning all of the programs I have been using at work like AutoCAD and etc in Mac especially the shortcuts. I was lost at first especially copying files (I still am sometimes when creating folders) but now I love it. You'll enjoy it too for sure.

  13. I need to catch up with everything. I am so behind on blogging and everything else. My laptop is doing the same as yours I think so I fear that it might be time to buy a new one soon.

  15. i made the switch a few years back and i still open my macbook and feel like it's new. where my PC's would feel on the decline after only a few weeks. fisher and i have this argument all the time (he will NEVER go to the dark side, or so he says). i get PC's are better if you want to be all programmy, but if you just want to open you computer and do some blogging a mac is so much better for the average bear. so congrats and welcome to the dark side.

  16. Yay! Congrats on your new 'puter. I have been a Mac girl since high school, when my mom bought a used Macbook from her friend to give to me. I'll never join the PC world voluntarily, as my last job showed me what a pain they really are. I think I had it bad, though, because on top of it being a PC only environment, it was a government PC, which meant it was bogged down with insane amounts of network security and stuff. Welcome to the dark side!! ;)
