The Slytherin foodie

If you can guess what this food I ate recently is, you win a prize*!
I'm a terrible eater.  In March, I ate breakfast every morning for two weeks straight and then gave it up entirely.  I don't eat consistent meals, eat random things at random times of the day and will call dessert an entire meal.  As an example, this morning I woke up and ate Whole Food's Zoo Gummies, had a doubleshot of espresso on the drive to Dallas, snacked on almond thins, blackberries and kimchi once I arrived at home and then chewed about five gobs of gum.  Who knows what havoc I am yet to wreak on my mom's kitchen today?

I'm a parent's worst nightmare.  Or to be more specific, my mom's worst nightmare.  As I'm sure I've mentioned before, one summer when I was home from college, I ate only strawberries.  By July, I reeked of of strawberries (it could be a lot worse - I could have eaten only onions).  I argued that I saved her a lot of hassle when it came to cooking or grocery shopping.  She retorted that I smelled like a Yum Yum.

I also have a snake-like mentality when it comes to food.  When I'm hungry, I'll eat until almost bursting and then not eat again until I'm hungry, whenever that next time or date is.  Is this only a "me" thing?  I know the interwebs can be a sensitive place when it comes to peculiar or abnormal eating habits so I'm hoping that you all will refrain from calling me dirty names and let me know your honest-to-goodness eating habits, however unhealthy or strange they are.  I promise I won't judge.

  1. lol... i guess we all have our choices in food XD i don't really like strawberries O_O it's so hard for me to find the sweet ones.

  2. LOL A yum-yum? Oh my!! hahaha Strawberries totally scare me...

My eating habits are pretty normal. I don't eat a lot and I always eat different things, but I need to eat something like every 3 hours. Unless, of course, I'm distracted. Then I won't eat until I'm bored again. lol

  3. That's funny! I am a snacker. I'd much rather snack all day than eat a regular meal.

  4. Hmm...I don't know what it's called in English but that looks a lot like my favorite Thai dessert: tubtim grob in coconut milk.

I wish I ate more like a snake. I have a capacity to eat whether or not I'm hungry. :) And even when I'm not eating, I still enjoy thinking and talking about food.

  5. Reeking of strawberries doesn't sound too bad at all, in my opinion.
I get distracted with tasks at hand very easily, so making something to eat is usually the last thing on my mind even when I'm starving.
Of course, this does not bode well when I actually NEED my energy to run after three little boys. Lucky for me, I have a husband who cooks and makes sure I eat meals (relatively) on time...

p.s. I am current suffering from cake craving every night. Which is not good as I don't like to bake. (True story.)

  6. Only strawberries an entire summer? Wowza! Sounds kind of amazing though.

I don't think my eating habits are strange, except the amount of chips and salsa I can put away in one sitting is kind of insane!

  7. I'm at a loss as to what's in the bowl. It resembles my mom's cucumber salad (with onions and tomatoes in mayo, vinegar and black pepper), so I'll go with that as my incorrect guess. =)

Sounds like you were a living Strawberry Shortcake doll that summer. I think if you pushed in on her tummy, a little puff of strawberry scented breath came out--strawberry is a great smell. My parents had a patch and those fresh berries made my mom's strawberry cake the best. Guess what I want now? Haha!

For as long as I can remember, breakfast has been a difficult meal for me. Either I'm not hungry or I'm in a hurry. I do usually have one nice breakfast or brunch on weekends.

I think my worst eating habit is eating too close to bedtime when I work late. It could be anything (a bowl of cereal, toast with peanut butter, something from the back of the fridge). I should just skip it and go to bed.

Your mentality leads you to eat when you're hungry. That sounds healthier than eating just because it's "time". Also, I think leopards have just a few big meals a month, with snacks here and there. So you could compare your appetite to stylish reptiles or stylish mammals. =)

  8. I have many strange eating habits. So of them are to save money like poptarts or cereal for every meal. I also drink soda like it's nothing, waiters/waitresses have to refill my cup far more than the average patron.

I also can't eat 2 things I love very much. I love pineapples and pickles, but they often cause canker sores in my mouth. I suppose the acid does that. They aren't worth the risk, but every once in awhile I'll take my chances. If I brush my teeth 10 times a day, I can prevent them.

I also had a very rough childhood when it came to eating, some of those childhood phobias still are deep in my subconscious when near them. One of them is a very commonly consumed item, and bad experiences from childhood have made even the sight and smell of it unpleasing to me. I don't freak out or anything, but I do feel uneasy.

  9. I have some strange eating habits too, sometimes I eat salami and such as snacks instead of candy and such that other people eat - and I can totally eat only strawberries for a meal instead of having it as dessert. Many more examples but I´ll stop there. ;-) I think we´re all a little weird. ;-)

  10. lol, i like this post. i have strange eating habits too. i never eat breakfast. i try a couple of times a year to make it a habit, because it's oh so important, but it just doesn't work for me. i snack a lot but consider this healthy. i'm not really into sweets and can start with sour fish or sushi first thing in the morning. i often have a huge cup of coffee just before going to bed. who says we all have to eat the same way?

  11. LOL I'm not judging! You sound a lot like me. I wake up and only have coffee until 2 or 3 in the afternoon and then have a small lunch & snack all day. I'm really strange with my eating patterns. I think I'm going to have to get it straightened out before I have a kid.
And thanks so much for the comment on my blog! Would you like to follow each other?

  12. I'm a serial snacker but I also eat 3 regular meals a day. I NEVER used to eat breakfast but I had a really stressful job where I didn't have time to eat and it forced me to eat before I left for work and now I can't live without breakfast (just stick with it as it eventually takes)! I think I know what's in the bowl... is it rice pudding?

  13. I only really eat two meals a day, and don't snack very often. It's a bit odd, but I am very little, so maybe I need less food? But when I eat, I eat a big meal. My eating habits are strange too I suppose. So no nasty comments from me!

  14. Strawberries - not a bad thing to smell like!

I have a few bad eating habits, although I'm slowly trying to phase them out. One is snacking...between EVERY meal. One (or two) after breakfast, after lunch and even after dinner (which is usually accompanied by red wine). I guess I can't really say it's strange, but it sure isn't kind to my wallet. Every snack needs to be different. God forbid I have two of the same snacks in one day!

  15. Having just had cake for breakfast, which I actually rarely eat, I'm not sure I should comment here! I don't eat much/often and it doesn't help me. I crave junk, which isn't good (salty, not sweet), and I get snacky more often than I want to. One of my goals for the summer is to eat breakfast, snack healthier and eat more veggies! Fun post, dear!

  16. No, it's not just a you thing. I've committed this 'crime' too. ;) But lately, I've been trying something new and am trying to hold myself to it - for every piece of junk food I eat, I HAVE to run 2 miles. And if I don't want to run those 2 miles, I shouldn't eat the junk food.

    So far, so good. ;)

  17. I don't know, but I found this post really funny, Ruth. You're so honest....love it! And yes, you are a parent's worst nightmare! If my kids eat like you, I'd go crazy...heehee...but seriously, if it works for you, I don't see anything wrong with it:)

  18. I used to eat breakfast on a daily basis, had to have it or my stomach would start to hurt but the past year or so I've hardly have it. I'm trying to change that and start to eat a bit more healthier. Breakfast tacos and coffee isn't good everyday.

  19. I'm a big breakfast eater, I have to eat something to start the day. But the rest of the day... ugh, I'm horrible.

  20. So the picture above is of a Vietnamese drink called Che, made up of coconut milk and jellies. Simply delicious and especially refreshing during the summer!

  21. i think my problem is that i just have no focus whatsoever when it comes to food. i generally try to eat well (which is hard not to do in switzerland) but i can easily fall off the wagon. it's like i have food ADD. and i eat a lot of PB :)

  22. I have strange eating habits, too. Sometimes I forget to eat entirely (don't know how that happens) and then I binge on any random things I can find. I also get into kicks where I crave a certain food and eat only that, then after a while I'm totally sick of it and I don't eat it for weeks, months, even years for some foods. You are not alone :)

  23. I just finished a jar of nutella within the span of a couple of weeks. ............................................................

    And I crave for more.

And I crave for macarons for breakfast.
