Pumpkin Profusion

This weekend, my family and I went to the pumpkin patch that beats ALL pumpkin patches.  Think your pumpkin patch is awesome Charlie Brown?  Try again!  Called Cinderella's Pumpkin Village, the exhibit at the local arboretum featured over 50,000 pumpkins, squash and gourds.  I've honestly never seen more pumpkins in my entire life and so many different kinds as well.  Bushels of hay were stacked up so that parents could pose their children with different sized pumpkins and my family took obligatory photos with them as well.*  Never you mind that we were the oldest people there without children.  It was a Pumpkin Paradise!  The weather was a fairly warm 85 degrees so by the time we left, we had a bit of colour to our cheeks.  And most significantly, my parents bought a family membership to the arboretum so that they can visit year-round and also bring their friends.  My parents are now patrons of the arts - I'm so proud of them.

*My mom wanted to take a picture in Cinderella's pumpkin carriage.  Siri and I quickly vetoed that idea when we saw only wailing infants in that line.

**I'm really curious as to what happens to the pumpkins after the exhibit is over.  Are they mulched into compost?  Are they given away to make pies and such?  Tell me!

  2. That is an awesome place, but my little patch is the most sincere and when the Great Pumpkin arises Halloween night...he'll probably want to join your patch. :)

Mom deserves a carriage pic!!! Draw straws with your sister to see who poses in it next year. haha

I hope the pumpkins end up as food, not compost.

  3. Holy crap! That is the craziest pumpkin "patch" I have ever seen. It looks like a lot of fun. :) ...I can't remember the last time I've been to a pumpkin patch, it has to be over a decade... lord... it's something I'd love to do this fall with my husband though. :D

  14. I've never seen so many pumpkins before. Our house usually has only two pumpkins - pretty much for my two nieces to spend an afternoon with my dad to color and carve. This looked like a lot of fun to visit with your parents too. What a great outing!

I also wonder what happens to pumpkins after Halloween. All you can eat pumpkin pies?

  15. Ok, ok, that may be the biggest, but is it the most fun?!? I don't know. I love our pumpkin patch up here. That is pretty awesome though, sheesh. And your mom should have gotten the picture! I'm used to the sound of wailing infants so that doesn't bother me (cruel, cruel). Oh yeah, before I forget, I finally joined good reads!

  16. That would be great for some serious pumpkin seed roasting! I tried to grow a 100 lb pumpkin plant {possibly a few} in my mother's yard this year but it never grew. I think it was sabotage, since I was told that under no circumstances should I plant it. :)

I have to say, I'm having a hard time with the words 85 degrees.

  19. That entry area filled w/pumpkins is soooo cool looking! This year we are getting our pumpkins from the market, but we love going to the night event were pumpkins are creatively (and oooh so meticulously) carved and light at night.

  22. That looks great. Warm, too - is that a tank top one of you is wearing?

I rather wonder what happens to the ponies afterwards. They seem to be made of hay as well (or maybe I just need new glasses).
