This house is haunted

So usually I share beautiful homes with y'all on Sunday evenings.  And I promise that I will bring you guys back to your regularly schedule programming.  But this was really too good and disturbing to pass up.  This 1905-built yellow house is friggin' haunted.  So I don't exactly have proof of the hauntings and I know that the burden of proof is on me so please examine the evidence.

This is what makes my skin crawl:
  • The gold "fleur de lis" painted throughout the home.  They look suspiciously like crosses.  Now, ask yourself, why would someone go through all that trouble?
  • Why are there bars on the windows inside the house?  Typically when you see security bars on windows, they're on the outside of the home and act as a deterrent.  And they don't have little padlocks dangling off of them
  • One dim and dingy stained glass window.  That's the only one throughout the whole entire house.  The set up is perfect... for a funeral home
  • One creepy red chair positioned in a spot light at the bottom of a flight of stairs.  Either someone really needs a lesson in staging or that's a ghost's chair if I've ever seen one.  And the creepy reflection of the photographer in the glass does not help
  • One wood paneled room with hooks hanging out of the ceiling.  Do I really need to explain myself with that one?
What do y'all think?  Haunted?

  1. The bars on the windows are certainly not attractive especially because I can imagine they're not THAT necessary. If you ever come to SA however, you'll find bars inside the homes in every single home purely because the crime rate is so high. In fact, in some homes you'll find them both inside and outside - thus looking like a jail cell! But that's the harsh reality of living here (especially in Johannesburg) and you eventually get used to it. I don't think that this home NEEDS it indoors though.

  2. My guess is: not haunted. It's just a feeling...

  3. I like your evidence! To me the pictures show that the house is haunted by the 80s. And if you hadn't said those things were a fleur de lis I would have thought they were crosses.

I think the bars on the inside seem so much safer than the bars on the outside. The ones I've seen in Boston on the outside are fixed in place which means you are pretty much dead if there's a fire. If this place is haunted then I could definitely see someone fumbling with the key to the padlock and then not getting out in time. Totally the makings of a horror movie.

  4. ha, it looks beautiful from the outside, but from the inside it's creepy. I agree. like two different buildings altogether...

  5. Eeeeks I got really creeped up reading your description of the house, but then i look like the pictures, and don't think it looks that scary. Still you've had me convinced. I won't want to go in there just in case!

  6. Haunted! Each night a sentinel occupies the chair, keeping the spirits from running amok (with the help of the "crosses"). :)

My mom was convinced our house was haunted. She had strange experiences and then I did too. Ghosts or imagination? It had to be imagination, right???

  7. I'm with Trishie... the description was creepy as heck, but then when I saw the pictures it didn't look that bad. I actually quite like the outside of the house. I don't think I'd ever go into the house to see if it actually was haunted, though!

  8. The outside looks so cheery and happy I can't believe the inside could be haunted. Those crosses and bars are pretty creepy though...

  13. That place is definitely haunted. It's way to sunny and cheerful looking on the outside, it's clearly trying to hide something. So creepy - I love a good ghost story.

  14. I don't know but the outside looks beautiful!

  15. Bars on the windows of a room looking to be set up for a seance. Eek!

  16. Yeah, I'm with you. That is creepy beyond belief, especially the awkward angle shot of the hallway with the red chair at the end. Maybe it's the lighting in all of them? Even without your disclaimer at the top I definitely would have the chills from this place. No merci!

  19. Well, first off, that bed? That's a problem right there. And I agree with whoever said it's way too cheerful in that first shot. Fake creepy cheerful. Cheerful meant to lure you in and lock the door behind you. Don't do it!

  20. hahaha I don't know if I believe in haunted houses, but just in case i never watch any horror or scary movies I am too afraid x

  21. LOL But it's so cheerful in that yellow?? I will give you that the bars on the inside are super odd though...

  22. Hahaha wow. Those crosses on all the walls! That's the best part. The bars on the windows are really weird too. Why not just get an alarm system? Unless they aren't meant to keep burglars out! My sister has been looking at wedding venues and settled on this old mansion outside of Houston, and it's actually quite beautiful, but she recently found out that it's a site frequented by ghost hunters because it too is supposedly haunted! So now they don't know what to do...

  26. Ha, you're funny, and SO right! I think you officially lowered the value of this house. :)

  28. I don't know whether it's haunted or they have serious taste issues in their decor. That wallpaper is nasty. They have Ghost Tours in the Heights and in Galveston though! We should go!

  29. From the outside it does look pretty, but all those fleur de lis is kinda creepy!

  30. Super creepy. I'm scared...........

  31. I don't know what's more disturbing - the padlocked bars on the inside of the windows, or that weird as wood panelled room with the ceiling hooks. I'm torn between being grossed out, and fascinated by the history of the weirdo decor...
