A wrench for Thanksgiving

Travaux
While I haven't been as share-y as I typically am on the blogosphere about my holiday plans, rest assured that I am still on top of my regular menu planning for Thanksgiving.  Along with the table setting theme colours of purple and gold this year, we've got all new sides, pies and drinks to try.  However a telephone conversation this afternoon with my mom brought all of this to just about a screeching halt.  My parents have decided that they are going to begin kitchen renovations tomorrow.  Yep, less than a week away from turkey day and they are replacing the cooktop, countertops and backsplash.  And probably painting as well.  No biggie.  My mom assured me that it'll all be done by this Sunday because that's what the contractor told her and we all believe home improvement contractors' deadlines.

Thank goodness this is the year that I live in the same city because the kitchen at my place will not be under renovation and if we need to cook everything here and shuttle it over to my parents' house in the afternoon, we can probably do so.  It wouldn't be the holidays if it wasn't a race to the finish line, would it now?

  2. Oh, but of course the contractor always meets his estimated deadline. Always. On the other hand, you're way ahead of me with your planning. Good for you. Thanksgiving is a lovely holiday if you use it in the spirit of togetherness and spending time with family. Have a good time with your, Ruth.

  4. Wow, I hope at least the counters are done so there's space to put the things cooked @ Rooth's Kitchen. Fingers crossed!

Do you think they were motivated to action because of the special guests this year?

  14. I'm recovering from a teeeny bout of food poisoning by eating leftover Chinese food (hello appetite! welcome back!), and this nearly had me spitting it out over the keyboard! WHAT?! This is cracking me up. I'm sure it's not cracking me up. I had dinner with a friend last night who's undergoing a whole house reno (with two kids under 4), and as we drove to her house she pointed to another on the block and said, "See that house? SEE IT? They have FIVE contractors there EVERYDAY and I can't get mine to show up once a week."

    Good luck!
