So July may have been a good book month for me. There were some stellar reads for sure: Housekeeping, Tell the Wolves I'm Home, Where'd You Go, Bernadette and Joyland. I've got a quick book review over at Book Adventurers of Tell the Wolves I'm Home, in my opinion one of the best books I've read this year. Joyland was as good as I had expected; Stephen King always shows up. I may have exhausted my book reading mojo though. The month is almost half over but I've only read one book so far in August. Maybe I need to explore a new genre. How has your reading gone this summer?
my summer of reading is looking quite abysmal. :( I think I've started and stopped reading every single book except two. talk about #epicfailing as a bookworm. sigh.
ReplyDeletereally curious about joyland. maybe i'll go ahead and check that out soon.
My reading month has gone appallingly. In an effort to save some much needed cash, I have been reading the freebies on Kindle and let me tell you, some of them are free for a reason!
ReplyDeleteThis is seriously impressive! I used to read like this, but I guess that was pre family, internet, blog, day-job-freelance-juggle - you get the picture. Nowadays it's mainly something relatively easy that will send me to sleep after five pages... xo
ReplyDeleteoh, not reading much at the moment either... my last good read was world war Z. didn't expect to like it, but it was great. totally different than the movie, apparently...
ReplyDeletebtw: I love your book posts :)
Ooh, I want to hear more about these. Is Bernadette not overhyped? What is the yellow book about? The Great Frustration has an excellent title. I got given a Robertson Davies ages ago but I'm not sure where it comes in the trilogy - should I read it? x
ReplyDeleteI've been reading too much political junk on-line this summer. Depressing. Political animals seem to be the biggest hypocrites on the planet. Wrong is only wrong when the other side does it. You went through a pretty good collection last month, very interesting titles.
ReplyDeleteYou and Erin always make me want to run to the next bookstore and grab some new books. I always have to reign myself in because my stack of unread books at home is huge. Inherited them from a friend who moved abroad, so they are not all my cup of tea but I made the commitment to read them all ;)
ReplyDeleteI've been better than usual with my reading this summer. At the moment, I'm almost finished with Emma (Jane Austen). I think I might go for Where'd You Go Bernadette next. I've heard only amazing things about it. I'm intrigued!
ReplyDeleteI just read the review about Tell The Wolves I'm Home and now I want to read it as soon as possible.
ReplyDeleteI am reading Scandinavian crime right now and I am also in love with "The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared".
Have always wanted to read that Where's You Go one....awesome to know it's great:)
ReplyDeleteI blazed through Where'd You Go Bernadette, but it lost me at the very end. I'm rarely 100% happy with book endings, though, but that's a discussion for another time. Reading is going well this summer! Thank gosh.
ReplyDeletei was eyeing tell the wolves i'm home. i'll definitely have to check it out! woot!
ReplyDeletereading is pretty good this summer. last i read (since bernadette) is "the art of hearing heartbeats" - such a lovely story, a kind of modern fairytale but better than that sounds. and "code name verity" that one was really good too. its YA book but it doesn't really feel like after you get into.
ReplyDeleteand "housekeeping" god i need to read that book i have had it forever but for some reason i always forget it about. i know i would love it. maybe i am subconsciously wanting to save it for the perfect time or something?
I never read nothing from Stephen King but I wish to. What is your advice for starting? Have you read more of his books?
ReplyDeleteThose look good! I've been having a slow reading month as well, I've had to drive into work a lot so my train reading time has been cut in half. I did finally get Gulp from the library though!
ReplyDeleteReplay looks like a more intense version of Being Erica. Have you seen that show? They stopped playing the new seasons in the US but the seasons I saw I really liked.
I've been wondering about Joyland! You know, the only book of Stephen King's I've read is his book on writing (which was great, by the way). My dad says I need to read the Dark Tower series. So, maybe I'll start with that . . .
ReplyDeleteAs for my summer reading, I can sum it up as thus: Pathetic. I'm hoping to rally in the fall. :)
