Weekend hermitage, of sorts

At the risk of sounding like a complete nerd - oh what the hell - I spent the weekend completely obliterating books.  My poor August reading record was bothering me and I really just needed a quiet weekend in, on the couch, wrapped up in a good graphic novel / Stephen King / book about books (Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore - thank you Shalini!).  Some of you may call it hiding, I call it exploring other worlds in a reclined position.  In all seriousness though, it was lovely.  And never fear, I will share my recommended reads with you quite shortly as we're coming up against another monthly recent reads entry (can you believe it!?).

For those of you who are starting a new school year tomorrow, best of luck!  May the first day be the start of a new adventure.

And for the rest of us, try to close your mouths as you gawp and gawk at the pictures of this Gulf of Mexico beachside vacation home in Galveston.  I know it'd be perfect for your Labour Day weekend getaway.  Dibs.  Okay, maybe at 5,200 square feet, it'd be big enough to share.

  5. They really make beach houses crazy-big these days, don't they? I know it's so multiple families can rent them together, but still. Dang. I love that this still feels light and airy, and that bathroom with ocean views: to die for.

  7. gorgeous homes. and i love reading about your reading experiences. i have slacked off a bit but i'll have to get back to my routine this week. i was just at a thrift store over the weekend and came across some vintage nancy drew books - ones my friend totally had and it brought back a lot of memories of just reading in her treehouse and at the library. ah the good ole days~ have a good week!

  8. I need to make a list of books for me to read before the end of the year. I feel like I have let myself go since I always had the time to read before. Now I feel like I have to fit int he time to read somewhere. However, I definitely want to make a list and read over my weekends when I'm along. Possibly when my patio gets fixed up I can cuddle outside with a cup of hot cocoa through the cold nights and just read.

Those homes are gorgeous! It is definitely so big I wouldn't know what to do there. I feel like I'd get so lost! Love the deco

  11. Some day we should discuss the fact that I skipped 100+ pages of a Stephen King book and had no idea until I got to the very, very end and one thing didn't make sense.

I like the house, but the ceiling lights in the kitchen are too special to have so many.

  12. That's basically what I've been doing since about a week ago, going through both old and new books as much as I have time to do, instead of reviewing material for class...mostly because I know that once the semester starts, I won't have time to read as freely as I do during summer/winter holidays. Also all of the white walls in these photos are making me superrrr jealous (as there's nary a white wall in my entire house.) Hope you have a good start to the week! xx
