Why, oh why, do quinoa, couscous and lentils taste like
Absolutely nothing?
They are the chameleons of the food world,
Always hiding amongst the bolder tasting.
Even if that 'bolder' tasting food is tomato or spinach.
How is it that eating raw foods
Makes my stomach rumble and growl
Almost immediately after the last bite?
And I go scrounging around for sugar, carbs.
Even candy bar wrappers look tasty.
And vegetarians who are also gluten-free,
Are you even alive???
Someone get this girl a sandwich!
hahah I was on raw food diet for 10 days.... it was painful.. but after the 4th day you stomach shrinks and you aren't as starving..

Butter and jam??? :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! I don't like couscous, I've never tried quionoa and lentils I'm still trying to like (I hear it's all in the preparation and spices).
ReplyDeleteI get those cravings for sweets and carbs too, usually by the mid-afternoon. I curb it with a green tea and a handful of Stacy's pita chips in cinnamon. That'll usually hold me until dinner time. But sometimes, I give in and I'm like, screw it, I'm eating this cupcake!
"And vegetarians who are also gluten-free,
ReplyDeleteAre you even alive???" Hahaha....they've all turned into Gwyneth Paltrow!!!
OMG I have good friends who are on a vegetarian and GF diet, and going out with them/having them over for dinner is so hard!!
ReplyDeleteAh! so much truth in this little poem. The answer? Garlic flavors everything in my life!
ReplyDeleteYou speak truth, my friend. I tried to be vegetarian for a few years and I actually weighed more than I do now because all I ever ate was pasta. I can't imagine being GF too. And you know what else I don't understand? People doing paleo. I just don't get it. I want bread, potatoes, pasta, sweet treats, fruit! Moderation is key, not denial.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you don't like cous cous!! For shame. The best I've had was from Whole Foods prepared counter years ago: feta, kalamata olives, red onion, and cous cous all tossed together with olive oil and salt, served cold. It was amazing. Dammit now I'm hungry.
ReplyDeleteAs I'm eating M&Ms......
ReplyDeleteI wish I could eat healthier. I really wish.
oh my, you are very brave. I go through phases of "healthi-er" eating habits, but never this extreme! How much longer do you have until the torture ends?
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahahaha I am vegetarian who can't eat anything that has a certain preservative in it {which is in pretty much anything processed}. Sometimes I think I'm dying of hunger with endless amounts of food around me.
ReplyDeleteHaha... I am one of those grains lovers and can say this is really funny post!!!
ReplyDeleteI went back to eating meat after doing the vegetarian thing for a year and a half, ahem, pescetarian thing for a year and a half. I am thinking about getting back on the wagon except my barbecue cravings are still a little out of control.
ReplyDeletePlus, I am having the hardest time getting into quinoa! It's too light and fluffy and I think it tastes like soap...
Have a great weekend!
Omg this is too funny. I know someone who is a vegetarian and gluten-free. When I'm out having lunch with her, I really don't know how she survives. I wonder if she enjoys eating...
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny. I was a lacto vegetarian for 7 years. I felt bad for the party hosts because they didn't know what to feed me so I got used to bringing my own food. Then one day I just thought of eating a cheese burger and since then went back to eating anything. (Nowadays, I'm leaning towards another side of the food pyramid- paleo diet).
ReplyDeleteWow... what a poser... he knows how to face the camera :-)
ReplyDeletei loves lentil because i feel like they have such a nice hearty flavor. quinoa, that has a flavor too and it's called gross and bitter. cous cous, yum, i miss that stuff since going gluten free. i mainly eat rice and chicken and veggies and chips. i wish i was brave enough and a lot less lazy so i could try a raw foods diet for awhile, but that's just never going to happen.
ReplyDeleteHaha. Not sure how serious you are with this whole lament, but eating salty chips, ramen, sugary cupcakes, etc makes you crave more of the same. Once you've been having healthy food for a while the cravings go away. I say this because I recently had a bag of ramen and now I can't stop.

He he he I love this little poem. The first bite of quinoa is always good but then you realize you have a whole bowful and suddenly it becomes oh-so-bland.
ReplyDeleteSo, PETA is headquartered here in my hometown which means basically good things (they don't protest at home, for one thing) and it also means that there are a lot of vegans floating around. They all look tired and gray. I do like cous cous. Lentils, not so much.
ReplyDeleteOh my word, I love quinoa. Love, love, love it. Of course, by 'love' I mean fickle love. I like to dress it up first . . . as a pilaf, say, or my latest, Spanish rice. :)
