Visionary, but not

Pinocchio
Blerghle blerghle blerghle folks - what is wrong with this week?  Turns out, after seeing the ophthalmologist this morning, I have corneal edemas and have been banned from wearing contacts for a month.  A whole month!  Apparently if I wear contacts during this time for even an hour, I could do irreparable damage to my eyes and go blind.  Somehow I find that hard to believe but am I really going to test it?

I've never really worn glasses before (going straight to contacts) and my current pair are approximately a bajillion years old from a prescription from who knows when.  I'm not quite sure how I'm going to manage but luckily, my eyes are good enough to do most things, except drive, without glasses.  The world is going to be blurry for a little while for me and who knows how many bruises I'll pick up in the process.

Please tell me that September is going to be better?

  1. We'll wake you up, when September's here. :)
Sorry about the eyes. If I've learned anything from watching Doctor Who, it's that we often discover/resolve problems at the last possible second. So I'm really happy you are taking the doc's advice, he/she could be right about the hour!

I'm lucky. I can drive without glasses--I'm not supposed to, but it's not a problem unless I'm headed somewhere unfamiliar and need to see street signs as early as possible.

Take care of yourself...maybe drink some carrot juice (good for healing).

  2. I think this calls for a wardrobe re-invigoration in the form of a trendy new pair of Warby Parkers or some such! I wear glasses or contacts and I like mixing it up - it might feel weird, but there are such reasonably priced (and awesome) frames out there at the moment that this could be a fun blessing in disguise? Hope you're feeling better soon, Rooth!

  3. Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I had to go without contacts for months too a few years ago due to an autoimmune disease and I wasn't happy either. Hope your eyes get better soon.

  4. Oh no! That doesn't sound good. Take the doctor's advice - it's not the end of the world having to wear glasses again, especially if it's only for a month or so. Besides, glasses can make you look highly intelligent.....apparently!

  5. You've had a time, haven't you dearie? Maybe you should take the rest of the week off and just lie around? Just to be safe. I'm ready to turn the corner on this month too. Bye August!

  6. Yikes! What in the world?

As for September, I say yes . . . it's going to be so much better we won't believe our eyes. Oh, wait . . . maybe that was a bad analogy turn of phrase . . .

Well, anyway, it's going to be awesome! :)

  7. Gahhhh, that is so scary! I was just watching the episode of Friends the other night where Phoebe's twin sister's fiance becomes friends with Phoebe. He says it's weird that she looks just like Ursula, so he tries taking out his contacts. "You're blurry, but you still look like Ursula. You're Blursula." This is what your post reminds me of! (Also I'm so sorry! I promise September will be better!) xo

  8. Rooth, it will be better. :)
And I wear glasses actually. I'm supposed to wear it most of the time, but don't. When I do, it's not too bad. You might like it:)

  11. What a week, huh?! The same thing happened to me in high school. As you can imagine, it was a very dramatic time for me. ha
If you do decide to get glasses as people have mentioned above ^, you would look great in just about any fun pair! I'm sure of it. I'd love to see your choices.
Anyway, take good care! Eyesight is priceless.

  12. I hear you Rooth. I am on my way to reading glasses soon. Not comforting when I feel like they age me by 10 years!

  13. Yes, September will be better! Every time I visit the eye doctor, they always tell me I need to wear glasses more. I use it as an excuse to make up some fun outfits around my glasses :) A month will fly by, and September will certainly be better!

  15. oh my goodness, my eyes are watering. my eyes are really freakishly sensitive and if anyone say the word eyeball my eyes start screaming. i had to get my eyes dilated once and the doctor gave up on me. every time he came near me i would involuntarily go in a defensive position and my eyes would water buckets. she never once touched my eyes but when i left my eyes were red and puffy and sad anyway.

it's a good thing i have good vision and if i didn't it would be glasses for me. my eyes vote you just do what the old doctor says and get maybe get a new prescription for your glasses while you are at it. xo

september is going to be awesome! you are going to win the lottery and we are all going on that yacht trip you promised, remember?

  16. awww what a bummer. At least it's only a month compared to a longer period of time? =)
I'm a glasses wearer/contacts wearer as well. Lately, I've been wearing my glasses more but I totally understand how it feels!

  19. i am so sorry to hear that your eyes are going through something. i have never heard of it before, but i do hope that it gets better after a month if not sooner. it must be different having to wear glasses when you are used to wearing contact.

  20. Gah, that sucks! Sorry you've had such a hard time of things...is there something the doctor can do about your eyes, or will this month hiatus from contacts be all you need? Sounds like a good excuse to get some really cute glasses though! Well, rest up and take care of your peepers!

  21. Never gamble with your eyes!
Thankfully, there's a bunch of affordable online glasses frame carriers that you could look into.

  22. Glasses can surely be a pain having been a contact lens person for many years, but I do agree following the doctor's orders. Hope all goes well.
