Welcome to Hollywood

I'd like to be the first to welcome you to the little neighborhood inside of Dallas city limits called Hollywood Heights (the Anne of Green Gables inside of me just got a little thrill from the neighborhood name).  It was one of the first conservation districts in the City of Dallas, in an effort to preserve the architectural integrity of the beautiful old houses scattered around the city.  The little gem that I'm featuring today was built in the 1930's and smack dab in the middle of that neighborhood.  I like to imagine in my mind that the kids who live in this house and neighborhood still play kickball on the streets and run from backyard to backyard.  That neighbors, who all know each other on a first name basis, will stop and chat with one another while walking their dogs in the evening and bake each other homemade pies.  That families still gather together for dinnertime and for quiet reading time on Sunday evenings.  Even if this house doesn't have the pizzazz of old Hollywood glamour, I'm hoping that it's held on to some of that magical charm.

  1. Love the exterior of the house. Looks just like the houses I draw up as a kid.

  2. Love the front porch...like this one, my parent's house had a sloped ceiling upstairs--and lots of storage in the eaves. My grandfather built drawers in the wall, so we didn't need a chest of drawers taking up floor space.

  4. I love the outside of this house. That porch and the front window is stunning. And I love that little room under the eaves. Bathroom and kitchen get a thumbs up too. Not sure what's throwing me off. Furnishings maybe? Usually I can overlook that, so hmmm...I dunno. I'm sure that the neighborhood is just as you describe it! ;)

  5. I wish there was an additional view of that attic space, because I'm hoping there are some good windows up there to plop a desk in front of. Talk about a writing nook! Is it weird that I judge the curb appeal of a house on whether or not I could see my kids taking prom photos out front? That's weird, right?

  7. I like the outside of the house, the inside looks a bit too generic for my taste. but there is definitely potential. and the neighbourhood sounds lovely!

  9. i love that sort of neighborhood charm too. it exists out there. we definitely have some where i live, but i don't always partake in it. mostly because there's this one neighbor that drives me totally and completely up the wall (i was out front one day and walked into my house to find his 1 year old inside who had come in through the back. no dad in sight - he tends to not be really attentive to his kid. there was another time where his 1 year old was on my porch at 7 am for 10 minutes. after that i figured he was alone so i got dressed and picked him up and walked him home and his dad was just leaving his house and was like "durrrrr, good morning!"), but oh he likes to mingle with the neighbors and be the center of every activity, grrr! obviously i find him really annoying ; ) anyhoo, since he's lived her i have stopped doing the big things like bbqs and such. but just having neighbors you can call friends is a huge thing, neighbors you know your kids can trust or borrow a little butter from. i love that!

  10. This house is gooorgeous, especially the kitchen and
the attic! I'm not so fan that it doesn't have a hall and
that you immediatly enter the living room after closing
    the maindoor.. Xx
