A friend in me

Veaceslaz Malai
The luck of the Irish must be with me because I've got the good fortune that this week will be filled to the brim with old friends and visitors.  Yep, the old sweatpant kind of friends that you will shut the restaurant down with, eating endless basket of bread / chips and recounting almost every story from 10 years ago.  We won't laugh any less or softer at those stories either, rather they'll build steam and one of us will have to excuse ourselves before we wet our pants.  My good friends will get to meet Ryon buddy for the first time and fingers crossed that he behaves himself and doesn't try to head butt or kick them.

I'll always wish that these friends were closer, that we lived in the same neighborhood or doors down from each other as we used to but understand that everyone has their own lives to live and that someday we may end up near each other again.  Perhaps it's just nostalgia or missing Siri, particularly around this time of year, but I'm heart-heavy for those old days when your best friend was just next door and only a knock away.

  2. i know what you are saying. even though my friends are close, we have scattered a bit, no longer walking distance or even in the same cities. and you throw, jobs, businesses, school, kids and families in the mix and those late night get-togethers or weekend breakfasts just happen less and less over the years until they almost never happen. i miss that often. thank goodness for blogging, aye :)

  3. Aw...this post makes me miss my old friends. It has been such a long while since I did any of the above, and probably a long while before I get either. Maybe when bub is 18?! Such is life I guess. Treasure each and every of these wonderful moments spend with friends, Rooth!

  4. I miss my friends too. My best friend just got engaged yesterday and I would give so much to be celebrating with her now. I'm not going to mention teletransportation again, but, you know... come on!

  6. You're making me nostalgic. It's so hard to stay connected as we scatter and our lives fill up with jobs and kids (horses). I miss far away friends, and often feel less than connected to the ones we have here. I'm wishing you much joy this week, my dear.

  7. Ohhhh.....these are the BEST kinds of friends. I love retelling (and laughing even louder) at stories that have been stories for ages. Have so much fun this week!

  9. Those are the best kinds of friends, impervious to distance and time. You can pick up right where you left off every single time. Enjoy, R. xo

  10. It's SO fun to have friends living close by, so you can walk into their house like Kramer on Seinfeld :-) But living a bit further away makes each gathering a lot more special too!

  12. I know how you feel. My friends are all spread out around the country and my bestest friend of all from childhood lives in Seoul! She and I are still holding out hope that *someday* we'll live in at least the same town again, if not the same neighborhood. :)

  13. Oh gosh, I hear you! Moving to Chicago was difficult in that instance, saying goodbye to friends who were within driving distance and as often as we could meet-ups. I miss them dearly! I hope Ryon behaves for your pals, and I hope you have the most wonderful time ever with them. Eat lots and lots of bread/chips, and talk your heart out down memory lane :)
