Some questions to ponder at night

Ace Hotel NYC
What / who was it that bit me on the ankle at the Ace Hotel lobby and will I require shots because of it?  Should I be concerned if it's growing puffier and more red by the minute?  Am I going to turn into a werewolf/vampire and, if so, can it be soon?

Since when did all the men in NYC get the same damn hipster haircut and who's going to tell them that they all look like hipster clones with their identical Converses and thick rimmed glasses?

Ditto with women and Birkenstocks?

How many blocks can I walk into Times Square without wanting to self destruct / plow my way through the deluge of tourists using a shovel?  (Trick question - the answer is zero.  I will walk for blocks to get around it and never stay near this mess ever again.)

Will I ever be able to ride the subway without a) holding onto a germy subway car pole for balance and b) having hair that smells of subway for the rest of the day?

Honestly, are you watching the World Cup for the super prowess soccer skills or for the eye candy?  Promise I won't judge.

  2. Ahh you're in NYC! Live it up, girlfriend, germs and hipsters aside of course :) I'm watching as many World Cup games as I can (we watched the France match at a PACKED bar and it was amazing, such a crazy energy in there) because I love football. Not American football, and basically no other sports, but real football? LOVE. xo

  3. Great questions Ruth! I wonder the same about hipsters. They've just become so....common and isn't that just the most ironic thing?

  4. Yeah, ditto on the Times Square thing. I used to work around there so having to navigate it day in and day out was a trip. Funny thing is, you never get used to it. I would have rage every single day, lol.

  5. So many great questions, Rooth! I will ponder them all!

  6. I did not know that Birkenstocks are supposed to be hip. :)
Actually I really love Fussball. I mean, I grew up with it and loved to watch it ever since. Of course there are some really good looking players...

  7. my husband and i watched the world cup every four years but this year without cable we're scrambling to figure out where to watch it. we're planning on going to a bar or a friend's house :) and oh my goodness.. when i first rode the subway in nyc i could not ride it without holding on to the bar.. then i somehow learned how to balance myself! i had to give myself a pat on the back for leveling up to that balance skill. :)

  8. I knew that was a trick question!!! And the World Cup question is a trick too--Americans don't care about soccer. :)

How is your ankle? That is worrisome.

    PS - hipsters! Yuck!!!

  10. i am hoping it was a bug that bit you. at first i was thinking some sort of a mammal but i figured you were just cavalier for that.

too many women in birkenstocks in NY?! things have changed. when i wore birkenstocks, so many years ago, it was like the epitome of being unfashionable and i was constantly made fun of for it (not by everyone, mostly by my aunts and such who's glory days were the 80's and pumps and should pads were a sign of womanly power).

  11. I wonder the same thing about hipsters every time I do anything in this city. They all look the same, they have the same haircuts, wear the same thick-framed glasses, shop at the same stores and buy the same flannels and skinny jeans and boots. For a subculture group that considers themselves independent-thinking & progressive, they sure do look alike and blend together a la mainstream.

  12. Hope your leg is ok! And LOL on everyone dressing the same in NYC. Seriously, they think they are fashionable but it aint unique. And ew, Birkenstocks. I don't watch World Cup, not even for the eye candy!

  13. Oh, so many questions! My answers: 1. bedbugs {don't hate me for saying it, I had to} 2. Birkenstocks are back in this month. 3. I enjoy letting hipsters know that I'm more hip than them because they all follow each other instead of following no one like they think. 4. If I have to stand on any subway I hook my elbow around the pole. Everyone around will hate you but you'll never see them again 5. I would say B if I had time to watch it at all. :)

  14. Oooh maybe it was a spider! Apparently they can be non poisonous but if they bite you when they are dying, it becomes infected. True story. It happened to Jordan (in the UK, aka the most undeadly country on the planet). Who knew they wore birkenstocks in NY? Not me.

  15. Are you watching the World Cup? I'm watching it because it's been imprinted in my psyche that I must watch it, and cheer, and be upset if one of my teams doesn't win, even if really, it makes absolutely no difference whether they do or not. *sigh* I'm very conflicted about this world cup and all the horrific things I've been hearing about Fifa lately.

In any case, the eye candy doesn't hurt. :)

  17. This is why it stinks to be so behind on my blog reads. You were in NYC? And didn't enjoy it in the least bit? Funny, one of my besties stays at the ACE every time he is in town for business. We always meet in the lobby and have breakfast in their restaurant. Haven't gotten bitten (yet!) though.
