I am so pumped to have a flexible working schedule AND environment. Frenchie and I are moving in two weeks (hopefully) and I'll be using a spare bedroom as an office as well. I haven't really had time to think about a home office and what type of design I'm looking for but I want it to be clean, bright, organized and INSPIRATIONAL! Not too girlie but not too sterile or masculine either. I live in an apartment as well so I'd like to not have to build or install shelving or cabinets. I've been looking online for some samples and have found some snaps below that I like. A common theme that runs through these rooms is that there is a lot of white space. I wonder if I'm drawn to that because it represents a sort of blank slate for me to start with. Lighting is also so very key - particularly natural lighting.
Do y'all have any tips as far as a home office? Do you feel that more "things" in your office space present more distraction or inspiration?
My dream office space would be bright, spacious with a few flowers and knick-knacks here and there.
ReplyDeleteI think there's a fine line. Too much can be very distracting and create clutter (or the illusion of clutter). But too bare is boring (unless you're a minimalist). I'd go for something in between. But that's just me!
Have you checked out Danielle Sprouse (Breakfast at Toast)'s blog? She has my dream office! http://www.breakfastattoast.com/2012/01/my-home-tour-office-and-kitchen.html
ReplyDeleteI definitely like the idea of white and clean. An abundance of natural light would certainly be a bonus.
ReplyDeleteI'm still working on developing my ideal home office (right now I work mostly at the kitchen table!) but I love something clean and simple with a few inspiring pieces and natural light. I love the windows and gray walls of the second photo!
ReplyDeletei need to work on mine... it needs a major redo!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a home office, but wish i did.
ReplyDeleteReally like all your pics! The compromise between stuff and clear. I also really like the shag rug and couch idea for an office - for resting - I think I am tired ; )
ReplyDeleteThere are some really cool spaces here. I usually just end up working with the laptop on my couch.
ReplyDeleteI just figured out how to pronounce the name of your blog, and I feel like a complete idiot:)

LOL on Erin's comment above:)
ReplyDeleteLove that last image the most. I'm such a nerd that the image of all those books make me salivate!
I am all for having things right at my fingertips! I have a couple of shelves behind me that have books, papers and magazines (all I need for inspiration) and I have to say I couldn't live without that all right beside me.
ReplyDeleteAnother must for me is a comfy chair.
Can't wait to see what you come up with!
I'd love to have a home office, but that's a tough to have in NYC! That first space is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the second to last room!
ReplyDeleteYes your home office has lots of white space. I think the way you decorate the office is influenced by your profession. If you are into serious analytical job then better leave the walls white. Otherwise you can add a dash of color.
