So jaded

I really must be the most jaded Halloween fan ever - I've been watching old scary movies like the Blob from 1988, It from 1990, and the newest Mike Myers' Halloween film and they're maybe the least horrific movies I've ever seen.  I thought these were supposed to be Halloween classics, the stuff our childhood nightmares were made of.  Now it's all I can do to keep from laughing and the only thing I can think of is how much scarier Tim Curry is NOT dressed up like a clown.  Maybe it's the goriness overload from zombie movies nowadays but popping balloons filled with blood is  kind of a joke.  Are there any old scary movies that you've gone back, watched, and realized were the campiest, corniest films ever?

These house posts have now become breeding ground for the worst transitions ever because if anything, this is the least haunted of houses I've posted to my blog.  How adorable is the back and front yard and the sunroom that lets light stream into the living room.  And putting a mirror in the non-working fireplace is a clever way of making the room a little brighter.  Even though this house was built in the 1920's, I'm hard pressed to imagine any spirit haunting this adorable abode.

  2. I feel like something is always off about these houses and I've finally figured out what it is - the ceilings are so low! I'm so used to old fashioned UK tall ceilings now.

  3. I planned to watch Halloween or Friday the 13th on Halloween. But yeah, re-watched some movies I was so scared of as a child and now they are just ridiculous!

  4. Full confession. I've been obsessively looking for houses online for weeks now. I tell myself it's "research" for our five year plan, but face it. I'd be devastated if I found the perfect house and we couldn't move. Sadly my wish list is pretty long. This house hits a lot of my must haves (I'm getting a little tired of House Hunter's new favorite phrase "ticks all the boxes."), but that fireplace would need to be working. I love that sunroom (studio?), and I love all the light. I'm curious about the kitchen though. I get suspicious when they don't show the kitchen. ;)

  5. Oooh, another house I could call my own. As for scary movies . . . don't really love 'em. You know when Ellen sends her writer Amy into a haunted house? Yeah, that could totally be me. I'm not even kidding. It's a sad state of affairs . . . :)

  7. This this is a nice house, but the bi-fold doors leading to the porch need to be reinforced.

I like Young Frankenstein, it's a funny movie. One night I stumbled across one of the old Frankenstein movies (Son of Frankenstein???) and discovered the comedy was almost a complete rip-off of the old film. One big difference was that the old film had a little boy in it with a Texas accent...everyone else had either an English or German accent.

  8. That backyard is just perfect. So teeny! And delightfully unspooky :)

  9. Perfection! I love how all the walls are painted just white, that is what I would do if I have my own place - so that I can throw in anything without worrying that it will match the room

  10. i have to say that older horror flicks still do make me jump (even though i watch the marathon year in and year out..!) but then like 5 seconds later i think.. wow.. this is cheesy. :) i get scared easily though and i scare everyone around me with my epic reactions (kicks and screams included).

  12. i love that little sunroom and the yard is so pretty. you always find the best 'real life' houses.

so when i was 10 my mom and some other people rented nightmare on elm street. they all fell asleep and i was left awake to watch that terrible movie by myself. i didn't sleep that night. i was sure i'd never sleep again. it was the scariest movie ever. i haven't watch it since, but i am sure it must be much more camp in reality. wanna watch it for me and let me know?

we just watched the blob too! and the fog and swamp thing. swamp thing does not even try to be scary.

  13. Such a lovely quaint house.

It's a funny thing...we never ever celebrated Halloween here until about 5 years ago. And every year since then I'm like "since when do we celebrate Halloween South Africa??" lol. For most of the people here, it's just an opportunity to party in between writing exams ;)

  14. Yeah I actually prefer newer scary movies to the "classics."

  16. The least scary movie I think I've seen was the Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price. For 99% of the movie I thought the things wandering around slowly were zombies, but apparently they were vampires the whole time. It explained a whole lot once I realized that.

I love the house and I totally move in once I ripped the carpet out of those two small rooms. It's perfect!!
