Year of the Horse
Drumroll please - everybody, meet the newest member of my family... Ryon! I was bursting at the seams to tell you all about him when I first met him in October but didn't want to jinx the purchase process. And finally, last week while I was out of the country, he came home. Ryon is my very first horse and very first pet. He's 8 years old and a quarter horse / thoroughbred mix. He's quite large, really fuzzy, a social butterfly and incredibly food motivated, so much so that we are not hand feeding him treats or else he'll literally dig through your pockets for more. We're guessing that he's probably around 100 lbs overweight. I've only had the weekend to assess his personality but I'm sure I'll have more to share with you all as time goes on. We've both got a lot of work to do but I'm hoping that he'll be a pro at everything by the springtime.
For those who are wondering about what will happen to my greyby Ike, he'll go back into my trainer's lesson program. Poor Mr. Ike is jealous of all the attention that Ryon is getting and we're giving him extra treats and hugs until he gets used to the new guy.
This is the best way that I can think of starting the Year of the Horse (plus another piece of big news that I'll share later this week) - as I said, this year is going to be great!
Congrats on the horse, he is a beauty!
ReplyDeletePony! Nice, good hard or go home when it comes to first pets. My first pet was a hamster and he was horrid. x
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, congratulations!!! I was half right in a very wrong way. You went big with your first pet. I think mine was goldfish, which we 'taught' to swim through hoops.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear the other news!
I'm so happy for you Ruth, it's been a long time and you sooo deserve it! Hopefully I get to meet him one day. He's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou're killing me with the suspense already! But Congrats on the newest member of the family . . . love him already! And extra pets to Ike . . . poor, handsome fellow . . .
ReplyDeleteWelcome Ryon! You're really going to like Rooth. Don't let that suspected 100 lbs. thing bother you--you look great. I can imagine John Wayne heading out to fight injustice with you as his mount. I guess you saw the part about being her first pet. That's quite a responsibility...be a good boy for her!
ReplyDeleteOMG! So happy for you, Rooth:) Ryon is handsome. And yeah...what a way to welcome the Year of the Horse. How can anyone top that?!?! :D
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that is great news! :)) He is adorable! Congratulations! I hope Ike is fine!
ReplyDeleteI'm so beyond happy for you to learn this great news! What a great first pet! I can tell you're already so, so much in love. And thanks so much for the update on Ike. I'll gladly admit that I felt a little bereft about him, so give him some extra treats from all our girls. Tell Ryon that Lucy, Thea and Violet say hi. And now Violet wants a horse.
ReplyDeletewell, hello mane blowing in the wind. he is so pretty, or maybe handsome, actually i think he is both. i love that it's the year of the horse and you got a horse! and, yes, i am so glad you mentioned ike, because the truth is i think we have all gotten a little attached that fella. but i am glad that he will go on and help other human of the world with his wise horse ways. xo
