From classy to sassy

It's not the holidays without a little bit of drama now, is it?  The kitchen was completed at 11:30 pm on Tuesday night and just in time for Wednesday prep work.  That and the roasting pan that my dad forgot to pick up were the only two hiccups to a relatively perfect holiday long weekend.  Although I didn't do quite as much planning on it this year as I have in previous years, we chose to go a little sassy with the Thanksgiving table setting with purple and gold.  The table looked decidedly more hen party-ish, what with the purple sparkly garlands, instead of turkey party-ish but hey close enough for me.  Also, Rick's wassail punch recipe that he so generously shared with me was such a hit that we ended up making it for the next three nights in a row.  It's only proper that I share it with you all as well, with a few minor adjustments.

Wassail Punch

Ingredients:
2 bottles red wine
1 cup cognac
1/2 cup beer
1 cup sugar
1 cup raisins
1 tablespoon of ground corriander
10 cloves
2 cinnamon stick

This recipe can be made on the stovetop or in a slow cooker.  Mix all ingredients together and allow to simmer for 2 - 3 hours.  Serve and enjoy with holiday cheer!

  2. This drink sounds like the "king's cup" from a college drinking game. ...That game where everyone pours whatever they're drinking in a cup and the individual who breaks the circle of cards has to drink it. I'm sure heating it does wonders for the flavor though!

    1. In case anyone reads my comment, I'm just teasing about an ingredient being left out. Rooth wouldn't do that. I would, but she wouldn't do that to you. :D

  7. Oh wow, this looks great, and your table does too! I found myself thinking about your kitchen all week! The roasting pan is so funny, on our ferry crossing, we saw a woman carrying one over to Nantucket and I wondered if someone had forgotten one. The holidays are all about stories like that aren't they?

  8. What fun! I love your sassy table.

And speaking of new recipes for Thanksgiving, the pecan pie bars you posted earlier were a hit! Because it seemed the thing to do, I offered family to take some home with them--and they wholeheartedly agreed. Rude. :)

  11. whoa cognac beer and red wine. this recipe is what i imagine when i am reading game of thrones and they talk about all of their wines - hot wine, spiced wine . . . i think that made my chest burn a little just reading the ingredients. i couldn't actually drink it because of the beer but i have been wanting to make a little spiced wine, maybe i could alter this recipe at lil bit.

your purple and gold table! it turned out great and i really like those little twigs on the napkins. glad you had a great thanksgiving xoxo

  12. I love the purple/gold combo for decor! Definitely different than the usual Thanksgiving stuff but so much more fun! That punch looks delish, too. I wonder if I could make it without the beer (boo gluten intolerance) and have it still taste as good?

  16. It looks nice, great job with the decorating! I firmly believe that it isn't truly Thanksgiving until the sparkly purple garlands are hung!

Those are some seriously committed contractors to work until 11:30 pm. They must have had a project the next day - or wanted the day off. Whatever the reason, I'm happy they were gone for your cooking fest!
