A little bit British

Hello sweeties (10 points if you get that reference).  A big shout out to all my chums in the GB because today, I'm feeling a little bit British.  I'd like to throw around British turns of phrase, like 'tickety-boo', and swear words like 'wanker' and 'tosser.'  This evening, I would invite you all to the local pub for a pint and we'd grab some pies and puddings.  Football would inevitably be on in the background and we could discuss who was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.  And then this weekend, weather permitting, we could go to Oxford for punting and picnicking.  If it's shite, we'll go do the Harry Potter studio tour.

How does that all sound?  TTFN!

  1. I want to say 'bugger off' to someone and have them be offended. Instead, I'd probably just get a weird look.

  2. you can always find a subject that i can relate to. as a child when i was living in germany, i started studying english in fifth grade. it was british english that we were studying and i hated it. i wasn't one of my favorite subjects and that accent annoyed me immensely. i'm not exactly sure when or why, but the brits have really grown on me since then. the music (adele), the movies (snatch), the handsome actors (tom hardy).. everything is all so good.

  4. That's bloody brilliant, now isn't it!?!

There's one version of a British accent that I don't like...the one that comes with a speech pattern that routinely adds a question to the end of a statement--like the one above. For some reason that annoys me, now doesn't it!?! Or perhaps it's only some individuals (like the bald fellow in Bridesmaids), not the entire group.

Those crumpets look great and I love the fireplace. I'd be happy to move into any house with that fireplace.

  5. That flat is SO cozy. I'm really liking the low ceilings in this instance.

I had clotted cream for the first time last summer (at an English pub in Oregon) and my taste buds have never been the same. Sooooo good with scones!

  9. I wouldn't shut up too if I had a British accent, and would read HP out loud to random strangers!
PS Love that word "wander"...and "git" too...hehe.

  13. A Doctor Who Fan, I see! I love the UK and British accents too! It's so stereotypical but I can listen to them all day long.

  15. What IS it about that lovely lilt of the British accent. It is dreamy isn't it? I would never 'shut up' either. I'd probably follow some 'wanker' or 'tosser' who had no brains b/c I was floating along listening to the accent. Those crumpets are amazingly photographed. I hope you have travelled to England...if you go to London...Burrough's Farmer's Market is fabulous!

  17. Was just telling a British friend of mine that I miss London so much. Although I don't think I will ever return, not in the state the world is in these days *sigh*

  18. Hhahahah, I agree with that last print. So true. Or at least, I would demand that my British friends never shut up. ^^
One of my friends actually was born in London but has changed his speech to become more "American." I have to beg for him to break out his charming English accent.

  24. I suppose it's not Ab Fab. Maybe too ridiculous and obscure but my favorite British show of all times. Perhaps this show is embarrassing if you are British. :) I love the poster in the bottom image.
