Noshing lately

I can't help it - my Instagram is all food pictures.  Happily, fall means that it's brussel sprouts season.  Believe it or not, I actually never had these until a few years ago.  As many of you pointed out, they have a bad reputation but are quite tasty and very versatile.  And so cute too, these mini cabbages.  Hrrmm, I wonder if anyone has ever tried making kimchi out of them.  I found a wonderful baked homemade chicken nugget recipe as well - incredibly easy and way healthier than the fast food restaurant kind.  You don't have to feel guilty about eating 20 of these!  Lastly, this past weekend I went to a restaurant that was part of the local cooking institute, staffed and run by its students.  If you have one of these in your area, you should really go give it a shot.  Not only is it cool seeing the students working in the big open kitchen but you also get to be a part of their learning experience.  The value at this particular restaurant was unbeatable and they served quite possibly the most delicious sweetbreads that I've ever had.

What dining adventures have you been on recently?  I'm in La La Land and you can bet I'll have plenty of food pictures from this trip!

  2. I love brussel sprouts too. I guess they have a bad reputation because children generally don't like them - too bitter - but parents make them eat them. but bitter doesn't work for children. like coffee. it's a taste you acquire later. I know so many people who hated them as children and haven't tried them since. that's too bad. yum yum. with bacon :)

  3. Brussels sprouts are so cute and delicious! I never understood why they are given such bad rep :( Oh, I've always wanted to try out these type of restaurants, but there's none here. (There's nothing here) =__="

I enjoy looking at food pictures, but I love eating them more XD I haven't got to any nice restaurant recently…so I'm definitely inspired by your post to do so :)

  5. Poor little brussel sprouts-they're so misunderstood! As for me, my latest dish to try was squash and black bean enchiladas. They were delicious, if I do say so myself! :)

  6. Brussels are new to me too. I can thank Neel for broadening a lot of my food horizons. Brussels are part of that. We do them with olive oil and salt and a bit of lemon juice. That's all. Cal hates them still, and he's a very adventurous eater. I hold out hope. Yay fall.

  7. Mmm, brussel sprouts are one of my favorite veggies...I think I ate them at LEAST once a week last winter. They're so good roasted. I don't think I'll ever get tired of looking at food pictures...they always inspire me to try something new!

  8. We do have a culinary school and restaurant here in Philly that I've been meaning to try. It's cheaper than a meal at a restaurant and you're right, you get to be a part of their learning experience. The same is technically true for beauty colleges, but I'm not brave enough to offer my hair up for a learning curve, haha.

  16. Isn´t that funny - I always get the itch to take food pics with my iPhone but not as much with my regular camera. I may feel too much pressure with that one - with the iPhone it´s ok and even charming if it doesn´t end up perfect! Love your pics! :-)
