The eight rules of book club

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7
I'm playing hostess for book club tonight.  We will be noshing on some homemade pizza and pumpkin coffee cake and discussing The Age of Miracles.  If you all would like, I can do a review on the novel incorporating some of the topics we discuss this evening.  Yes, I am one of those people who goes into book club with prepared questions and discussion topics.  What, like you didn't know I was an uber-nerd already?

Before we get started though, there are few important rules to book club that everyone should know (modeled off of the Eight Rules of Fight Club):

The first rule of book club is you tell everyone about book club.
The second rule of book club is you tell everyone else that you forgot about book club.
The third rule of book club is when someone starts arguing, or falls asleep, the discussion is over.
The fourth rule of book club is you can only have as many members as reasonable to allow everyone to participate.
The fifth rule of book club is one person talking at a time.
The sixth rule of book club is keep your shirt on, shoes are optional.
The seventh rule of book club is discussions go on as long as they have to.
The eighth and final rule of book club is that if this is your first book club, you have to read the book.

PS - Is that book lasagna (#6) not the most beautiful dish you've ever seen??

  5. So happy to learn you're a fellow book club nerd. I'll be hosting our next book club next month, as well. Confession: We discuss the book for about 20 minutes and then we catch up on life. I wish our discussions were more robust like yours. I bet you're a great hostess. Enjoy, Rooth!

  6. I would love to hear about the book--and I love the tiny book with the skull and cross-bones. :)

How did the food turn out? I made a majorly frustrating evening. But these things happen, not a big deal.

  8. The rules made me laugh out loud but you are definitely missing a rule involving the consumption of wine! Now please tell us all about the pumpkin coffee cake!

  14. That's LASAGNA??! Oh my god. I love your Book Club rules. But I think if you guys were reading beachy themed books you could be in bikini tops! Or just like on The Office have themed dress-up and snacks to match the book.

  20. I always wanted to do a book club because I love reading! But honestly? It would be better for me in theory than practice at this point in time.

  22. Oh now I want a little library cart! And someone to make me that book lasagna. Love reading but never attended a book club. The 8 rules are fun and I have to agree with Santa to add a 9th rule involving a glass of wine ;)

  23. Sounds like book club is a lot of fun! Thanks for all of your comments lately! They are awesome and so is your blog!

  24. I like that you are all prepared for your book club. I almost went to a book club a billion years ago but then we were supposed to read the Lovely Bones and it was too depressing so I never went. However, where most people have their credit card number memorized, I have my 10 digit library card memorized. The online ordering at my library is like my QVC. :)

I like that you are also sharing what you read since it's always nice to have a list in case I need something to read.

  25. Haha I'm a fan of the final rule. I am guilty of not reading a lot of the time, but this isn't my first rodeo. And when I do manage to get the book read in time, like you, I have my questions ready. I love it.
