A little bit sleepy

Chimney Humidifier / Nighlight / Pillow Spray / Sleep Shirt / Canvas
I had mentioned previously being kept up all night by the ghosties and ghoulies and also getting used to the night noises around my new place.  It's like going to sleep-away camp or a slumber party except without all the giggling.  Definitely not helpful if you’re trying to get a solid night’s sleep in before waking up early the next morning.  Getting up even earlier than normal for a 6 am workout?  HA - that's a joke!  I've put together a desirous collection of things that I would gather together to help me sleep at night.  More sleep, more energy, more time to do the things that I like during the day (and work).

Are there things that you have to help you sleep at night, especially when you're in a strange place?  A stuffed animal that you've kept since you were a baby, glass of water by your bed, slice of cake?

  1. I'm sorry you're not sleeping very well in the new place yet. I'm not sure that I have anything to help me sleep, except very comfy pajamas, cotton preferably. Oh, happy Valentine's day a few hours early. Xoxo

  2. Oh, that's rubbish. I'm the sort of person who really needs her sleep and I struggle to function if I don't' have enough. I find that a bit of lavender helps (it has calming properties) and reading a book - I generally fall asleep after 3 or 4 pages, no matter how good the book is ;-) Have a lovely day and (if you celebrate) happy Valentine's day xo

  3. a big cuddle from IC is what does it for me! But my sister in law can't sleep without a fan on. And the fan blocks out all the noises. It kind of makes sense.

Hope you get some good sleep soon!

  4. That sleep pillow spray must smell divine- I just looked it up. I must be horrible for saying this but I'm one of those people who could fall asleep deeply in less than a minute anywhere (in a moving bus, plane, train) so I wouldn't really need anything. Imagine how difficult that was to stay awake back in school :)

  5. Is it the new job thing or what? I have not be able to sleep through the night lately . . . let me just say, it's not pretty.

Needless to say, pillow spray sounds delightful. Of course, the pillow alone sounds delightful . . . and yet, I just got up. Sigh.

  6. I've heard lavender stuff helps...I don't use it myself, as I like staying up some days coz that's the only time I get to read:P

  7. So at the risk of admitting this on the internet, I totally have a little rabbit that I've slept with every night since I was born. It's still in my bed now, and I'm 26. Oops. That thing brings me so much comfort though!

  8. If that deep sleep pillow spray works, I may need to invest in some. I have trouble sleeping even in my own bed!

  9. i fall asleep in about 5 seconds. literally. i can be wide awake and then go in my bed and fall asleep straight away. but that's at home. i hate sleeping new places, i can't. i just can't do it. when i try i am up all night. if i do stay somewhere else, like a hotel, i drink wine and sleep with the tv on ; ) that seems to be a pretty solid combo.

  10. I know I've been told by many to NOT eat before bed... but more often than not, it helps me sleep! A warm bowl of oatmeal is the best.

But reading a book is another way to go, too!

I hope your sleep pattern gets back on track, good luck to you!

  11. I used to have a very hard time falling asleep, even in my own bed. I used to either decorate my room in my head or counted sheep or whatever came to my mind...Now I need to stick to certain rituals before going to bed, for example I need a full glass of water next to my bed, if I forget it I'll wake up thirsty in the middle of the night. Hope you'll be able to get a good nights sleep again soon! Being sleep deprived makes me super grumpy...

  12. I wear earplugs to bed every night. Unless my husband is out of town, then I feel the need to hear all of the ghosties & ghoulies. You know, in case I need to bolt :-)

  13. This will sound strange...but a slice of bread, lightly toasted, with a thin application of peanut butter (melted by the heat of the toast) leaves me feeling ready for sleep. It's a great snack, but I rarely have it. If you want to make it even less healthy (and more awesome), swirl a little honey over the peanut butter. If you want to avoid a drippy mess, put the honey on the toast first.

I hate to repeat myself (yet do it all the time), but you really do have enough material to write a book called, "How to Become a Night Owl Without Really Trying".

I hope the sleep-away feeling fades soon. Your bedroom needs to be an oasis, a sanctuary, where you are completely comfortable. I won't share any more creepy stories (for a while). :)

  14. Sorry to hear that - unfortunately I´m a bad sleeper myself and easily disturbed, so I have no advice to give. It sucks though. :-/

  17. Losing sleep is enough to really throw everything off. I'm so sorry to hear you're having a tough time adjusting in the sleep department! Every so often I get spooked, like really spooked if I'm alone (after having read a creepy criminal report in a local newspaper years ago- still gets me!). I usually give myself one thorough check of all the nooks, crannies, and locks then text my night owl of a sister. She's always up, plus it gets my mind off things. Good luck! Find yourself a night owl texting buddy. You can borrow my sister. ;)

  19. oh no, i hope you get used to it soon! that's the worst--getting comfortable in a new place. maybe listen to a relaxation track? i've found it helps me sometimes. i got some "hypnotism" app on my ipad that has an irish guy that talks for 30 minutes in a soothing voice, and he just tells you to relax and whatnot. it actually does help me sleep. but i usually wake up once it stops! O_o maybe (perpetual) background noise is the way to go.

  21. I'm one of those people who can sleep anytime, anywhere. When I wake up in the middle of the night for no reason, it's a novel think and I use the time to get things done I don't otherwise have time for.

Sometimes I like to listen to music, a roommate and I used to listen to what we called "sleepy-time jazz" because she had trouble and it was so soothing.

I hope you have gotten even more used to the noises now so that sleep isn't a problem at all!

  22. I have never seen a humidifier like that before!! Do they make noise? I like a little noise to try to sleep.

The pillow spray gets a big yes from me. In college, for a while, I couldn't sleep at night. My roommate did some research and got me some pillow spray and it worked really well.

  23. LOVE the sound of that pillow spray and love that print!

Joe is the most comforting thing for me when I'm sleeping in a weird place. But of course it's not always possible to be with him, and I think the most helpful thing at those times is actually an eye mask. Blocking out all the light makes me feel more like I'm...nowhere, actually. And somehow a slight pressure on my eyes is comforting.
