It's "aww" not "awe"
via here |
For those of you who are trying to express sympathy or communicate how moved you are by the cuteness of something, it's "aww" and not "awe." Unless that new puppy / kitten / baby inspires respect mixed in with a healthy dosage of fear, it's "aww." And it's most certainly not "awl*," unless you want me to use one on your face. K, thanks!
*Awl - A small pointed object used for piercing holes, esp. in leather

Very cool that you know an awl when you see (and read about) one!
LOL awesome. I also want to use said awl when someone writes "loose" when they mean "lose."
ReplyDeleteWhich makes me want to correct Mr. Gaffigan's tweet to say, "Whenever you make a habit of messing up basic grammar, your better-informed readers are silently despising you." That may not be under 140 characters.
My phone likes to autocorrect my "aww" to "awe". Feel free to use that awl on my phone for driving everyone nuts!!! lol

ReplyDeleteI've never seen anyone use "awl" before. It's the darn phone autocorrect. You gotta use a lot of wwwww before it recognizes it as "awww" and not "awe." hehe.
