A little bit technical

Whew, it's been one busy week with work.  We're doing a fair amount of website work and I'm starting to learn things with regards to very basic web design.  Duders, it's not easy and it takes fooreeevvveerrr.  I have a new appreciation for all of you who have awesome web designs that you do yourself.  Slowly but surely, I'll start to get it.  And then it'll be time to move on to how to use Photoshop properly.  Because right now, I'll be honest, I just google tutorials for the basic things I want to do and follow them to the T.  If anyone has some web and photoshop resources, tricks and tips for me, I welcome them with open arms.

This weekend, I'm going to be dressing up for a joint birthday costume party.  If you've been following me on Instagram (@Roothers), there's a little hint as to what the theme will be.  It's a good one.  There's also a cold front moving in this weekend so maybe there won't be that many ho-rrific outfits out.  Have a great one!

  2. I wanted to do some very very basic html changes on my site but I have failed several times, HTML is difficult. Adobe photoshop is fun, learned it by watching office mates and bombarding them with questions + experimenting them on my own. Now intrigued by your new costume.

  3. I'm helpless with Photoshop! I'd have to fo an intensive course one day. For now I prefer to use simpler photo editors - for amateurs like me.

  5. I definitely look up youtube tutorials for everything so it takes me about twenty hours to actually design something. I wish I could take a class!

  7. Good luck with the technical work, that's outside my realm of knowledge. About the doghousediaries, they're 2/3's right--I don't netbook in bed. :)

Have a great time tonight! Argh!

  8. If there's no picture of the party here, it never happened....bwahaha!
But seriously, have fun, my dear:) And yes....I tried to learn HTML on my own before (along with PERL). It was cray cray hard and tedious!

  9. When I was about 15 I taught myself how to do html/css, and while it might seem confusing at first, you pick it up pretty quick and it stays in your memory for.. forever it feels like!

  10. I feel like learning to code and how to use PS is a never-ending process. There's just soooo much to learning both!

  12. For Photoshop, Pugley Pixel has some good tutorials and Pioneer Woman - I think. I was lucky to learn Photoshop in school {though I prefer Illustrator for most things}. If you have specific things you need to know you can email me and I can try to help.

HTML is another story. I google and cut and paste. Sometimes I even get creative enough to modify it to what I need. I still don't understand it at all.

  15. I learnt pretty much all my HTML/CSS just reading online tutorials as well. Once you have the basics nailed, the rest kind of falls into place...
As for Photoshop, have you considered attending one of Bri Emery's Blogshop classes?

  18. Well, kudos to you for learning CSS and HTML! I'm going to have to check out that book. Learning to write code fascinates me in the nerdiest way. It's already been mentioned above, but check out Pugley Pixel - Easy to understand PS tutorials that I think you'll appreciate.

  19. I love that workspace. I keep trying to get Neel to trade our desk chair for one I saw at the lab (it's orange!) but he claims he can't do it. Whatever!

  20. I have been avoiding this, party because HTML seems so intimidating. I've never been really good at that kind of stuff. But I finally buckled down and realized if I want my blog looking pretty I'm going to have to know this kind of stuff. Good luck with it all! And if you learn any cool tips or tricks, please share!
