Let's get a new one

I'm finally back home after spending over a week at my parents' house for the Thanksgiving holiday.  As with prior times I've gone back to visit (as mentioned here), I had my "Monica" moments.  I spent one morning cleaning out and resorting my mom's linen closet, which had a 20-year collection of towels, and then all day Sunday emptying out the garage as well as my sister's car.  I promised my dad that the next time I'm home, we'd tackle the storage problem in the house.  My parents' home is over 30 years old and needs some sprucing up and I've laid out all of the DIY projects in my head.  My dad's response to all the tasks I have planned?  "Let's just get a new house."  I don't think they could have stood more of my cleaning / tidying up efforts.  To be honest, neither could I.

Today, I'm featuring a house that would be absolutely perfect for my parents' fake 'new home.'  One story and completely renovated, just like how my parents like it.  There are some beautiful wood floors that I'm sure my mom would love and do I spy a double oven in that massive kitchen?  All I'd have to do is double check the storage situation and move 'em right in, right?

  1. I'm with your dad--sell the house furnished and start over in that great, new house. I was surprised to read it had 5 bedrooms, it doesn't look that big from the outside.

You're a good daughter rooth. Years go by and we get used to things being as they are, when a little effort would make a big difference.

PS - I wonder how many cans of pears I could fit into that fridge??? lol

  2. haha- Monica moments. Spring cleaning and re-organizing before the new year starts is a great idea. That's really homey. I like the big island in the kitchen- perfect for family cooking together for big weekend lunch and dinners.

  7. You are so nice to do that! I have given up organizing for my parents since then I get blamed for everything they can't find. :)

I think that house would be perfect since I see built-ins and as long as it has a basement and/or a billion bedrooms they'll be fine.

  13. When can I move in? No, seriously!! Is it a ranch style home? Looks like it.

I get my Monica on as well when I visit my parents house. They keep it really clean, but they've have 4 children grown up in that home...so the drawers/closet are always in need of attention.

And that's exactly what my mom says...let's just get a new house!!

It's crazy what people can have in their homes after years of living in them!!

  19. oh man i wish you could come visit me, your inner monica could have a nuclear meltdown whilst hitting the jackpot of much needed storage organization! i am constantly trying to organize due to living in 1000 sq feet, 3 boys and one business which requires stage of bolts of fabric and sewing devices (and lots more). i need a fake home too : )

  23. Ha! I like your dad's way of thinking. It's funny but whenever I see a one story home I always think of my parents. And I think this home would be perfect for them too (my mom would definitely agree)

  24. Ha, I love that you go to your parent's house and start organizing. I'm inspired to do the same whenever I visit my parent's house, but I never know where to start. You're absolutely right about this house, it would be perfect - one story, not too big, and modernized. Though, I think the kitchen needs more counter space. ;)

  27. Such a cute house that you've chosen for them. I honestly think if I can just keep a clean house (I can't) then my living space would look so much better!

  28. I LOVE the size of that front lawn. So dreamy. Those hardwood floors are gorgeous too - I don't often see them so dark. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, I bet your parents are so grateful for your help with organizing!

And I love your dad's comment about just buying a new house - ha!
