Call me baby?

Society6
This morning I discovered that one of my friends had posted a slew of pregnancy / motherhood / labor books on her GoodReads account.  As I tend to shy away (read: run away) from Facebook, I'm typically oblivious to any big announcements that people make.  So I sent her a quick email - Is this in anticipation of some good news?

You know how the saying goes... when you assume, you make an ass out of you and me.

Not pregnant.  She is studying to for her doula* certification and had tagged those books as reference guides to help her through her coursework.  Insert foot / keyboard in mouth.  Never shall I make assumptions again, particularly those involving pregnancies.

  1. HAHA that's so funny. When I was about 14, I was at a garage sale and saw this cute little baby onesie. I thought, heck it's only 50 cents, I might as well buy it for the future...okay so maybe it waaas a little too soon. Anyways, the cute little grandma came to me and said, "ooh, how many months are you?"

    I was so mortified!

  2. Oh rooth! Well, it's better than asking that question in person based on a change in her appearance. Non-pregnant women (including those who have recently delivered a little bundle of joy) HATE being asked if they're pregnant--or "when are you due?"

Some of your post titles inspire the little devil in me. It's taking effort to keep from calling you "baby". (At first I thought this might be an indignant post--that someone had referred to you that way.) :)

    Good night (for real)!

  3. Haha :) This post reminds me of facebook news feed pregnancy announcements -a sonogram is what I usually find, but a recent post of a photo of a positive pregnancy test just caught my attention.

  4. Oh I hate that feeling! I feel for you, I've done the same sort of thing before. I blame social media entirely, I only found out the other week that one of my oldest friends is pregnant. Only, I found out via instagram. Stupid social media.

  6. Oh no! Oh well it happens. Just last week, I gave up my seat on the bus to a woman - whom I assumed was pregnant. Turns out she wasn't. Super embarrassed.

  7. Oops! Thankfully this hasn't happened to me...yet.

  8. Whoopsie!

But seriously . . . who would look at those books on Good Reads and think, 'Oh, she's studying for her doula certifications. Obviously."? :)

  9. Bwahahaha...tooooo funny, Rooth! But it's an honest mistake. Agree with the comment above. Who would look at those books and not think she's not preggers?

  10. Haha, I'm with you - I tend to avoid facebook at all costs! But mistakes like that totally happen :)

  11. It could be worse. You could have asked her in person which would have prompted her to think something about her appearance made her LOOK pregnant. That's always a toughie to recover from!

  12. Facebook has a tendency to do things like that. I also love the first comment. Too funny!

  13. everyday i contemplate erasing my FB account, i don't know why i haven't yet. i think it must be my co-dependent tendencies. but, yes, i also avoid it as much as possible.

  14. At least it wasn't because she had gained weight... That is embarrassing! Haha!!!

  16. Oh I run away from FB too. I'm just not a fan of it (though I did find it incredibly fun while I was in college!).
Well...assuming may not always mean you're right but at least you are more knowledgeable now! =)

  17. Well, assuming is human but checking back is probably always a good idea. Just to be sure.

  18. Hah! I would most likely have thought the same thing. I mean -- I think anyone would have!

  19. It seems you and I share the same love for FB. I keep pondering whether I should just delete my page. Anyway, I think you handled that situation in the best possible way, especially if she understands your contempt for FB.

  20. Hahh!!! In your defense, with all that pregnancy talk, I would have thought the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Haha. I'm sure you weren't the only one thinking that!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh man! I probably would have done the same exact thing!

  23. Did you know I used to be a doula? I probably know (and have) all the books she's tagged! ;)

  24. Eeeeeee she didn't hate you, I hope? :D
