I have wonky hair and other fine tales

New haircut
When I was a kid, I came back from school one day and asked my mom why I didn't have blonde hair like all the other kids.  I now rephrase that question to - Why, Mom, do I have the wonkiest hair ever?  Who did I inherit my wacky wavy hair from?  I got a haircut this past weekend and my hair hasn't quite looked as good as the salon originally styled it, no matter how much effort I put toward it (isn't that always the case?).  Now it just looks like my hair, just shorter and potentially a little more awkward.  Time to find some mid-length updos until my hair stops freaking out that I cut 10 inches off.  Actually, scratch that.  Even my pony tail is wonky looking.

Also, AT&T U-Verse, why no BBC America in HD?  What's up with that?  Don't you realize that us American folks want to watch Doctor Who and The Nerdist in high definition?  Biggest disappointment of the week.  Don't worry, I already lobbied an official complaint against them.

Lastly, does anyone know where to pick up funky fresh, not wildly expensive winter clothes?  I seem to find myself without adequate warm clothing after living in the tropical humidity for seven years.  I've been running a muck in a hoodie and workout pants and layering all of that with a long wool coat.  Yeah, it's a hot mess all around in Roothland.

  1. Hahah, yes that is unfortunately always the case. They make it all just too pretty that I cannot hope to emulate. ;n;
You look pretty in this short haircut though! And what's your range for not expensive?

  2. My hair is also wonky. It's wavy when short, but more just frizzy. And then when its long, if I put any layers in, the layers go wavy but the rest is just dead straight. It makes me look like a palm tree! I think you look fab though!!

  3. My hair is like stiff & fuzzy-dogs hair! It's tangled right after brushing!!
    I wish I had silky hairs :'((

  4. I think, hair always needs a couple of weeks to recover from the cutting, not matter the hair. I cut mine pixie short a little less than two weeks ago. and just now it starts to behave somewhat normally again... I like yours. doesn't look wonky to me at all :)

  6. Good. news--winter clothes should be on sale now and I hear wonky is "in" this season. Bad news--the cable company doesn't care and your hair is too pretty for people to realize it's wonky. Sorry rooth!

Did your mom actually yell at the tv???

  7. Well, it looks great in the picture! Wish I could help you with the winter shopping. I usually just wear my short-sleeved summer clothes but with 500 sweaters layered over it (so fashionable, I know). But Target always has a good selection of clothes, in my opinion.

  8. Yeah, sorry, no pity . . . it looks much too good in this picture to garner sympathy.

    Wretched luck, I know.

  9. Oh Roothy...u do crack me up! And for winter clothing, you can never go wrong with Topshop:)

  10. Haha, until you've had to deal with baby fine wispy hair that somehow transforms to a brillo pad in any ounce of humidity, thus creating a pyramid on your head.... ;) Your hair looks great. 10" is a ton, I never knew you had hair that long!

Also lots of stores are having major winter sales right now. I just picked up my 500th black turtleneck sweater at the Gap, for the fabulous price of $5.97. Woo sales!

  11. Your hair is gorgeous! I have kinks in my hair :( i´ve been eyeing the babyliss big hair, it´s supposed to help smooth hair and give a salon finish.

thanks so much for stopping by my blog :)

  12. I've always wanted to trade in my stick straight hair for wavy hair!

  13. I love that you take your tv seriously. And your hair looks great. You people with not mousy-brown-soft-straight hair seriously need to stop complaining :)

  14. Your hair looks great in the photo! I have a love hate relationship with my thin and super straight hair. I hate that how much product I will use whatever I'll do to my hair is gone within 5 minutes of stepping out of the house but I love it too much to just chop it off and get a short haircut...

  15. i have wonky hair too. it's one of those things that people openly make comments about - like "oh your hair, it's texture . . . it's weird," it's whispy and coarse and thick and wavy with straight bits and really curly bits and my ends are always dry. everyday is pretty much a no win situation with my hair. i wish it would grow enough i could cut 10 inches off and still be left with long hair. lucky you!

  16. I don't know if there's an H&M near you but if so, I usually find lots of cozy sweaters and layering pieces for very reasonable (cheap) prices there.

Your hair looks great in that photo!

  17. If there is only a way we could retain the "salon just-blow-dried" pretty hair forever at least stay that way until the next haircut is due. :)

  18. I have the wonkiest hair. You should see it when I air dry it.

I was just thinking today how I actually have more winter clothes than summer clothes....(Christmas and my bday are in winter). I would say go to the outlets...Gap Outlet, Old Navy outlet...you can find some good stuff there.

  19. Have you tried chemically straightening your hair? I have naturally wavy/wonky hair too, so I straighten mine once when 6 months and it sits perfectly straight everyday, no need to style!

  20. Hah! First of all, you're just about the only other person (besides my British father) who uses the word, "wonky" in all of its various forms. I love that. And I do love your new hair! Sometimes change is all you really need for it be "less awkward". ;)

  24. I can feel you with the hair problems. I have only had one person cut my hair in a way that I was totally happy with it and it looked good and grew well. Then she moved to Paris. I have to say that I almost took a day off of work to make an appointment at a pop up hair salon she is having at fashion week in NYC.

  25. I am not trendy by any means and I'm not sure what they have in Dallas, but I love what I've found at Zara and H&M and some of my best (and most complimented) winter coats have come from Forever 21 (XXI, whatever the name is these days). I haven't bought anything from Mod Cloth or Asos but I love looking at their stuff online. And then there's good ol' Tar-jay who is alway surprising me - especially with their shoes!

  26. Aren't transitions HARD? They impact every single facet of our lives from hair to clothes to how we run our errands. So yes, I feel your pain. Those mix ups can be good for us in the long run, which, I know, is exactly the LAST thing you want to hear right now.

  27. Well, if it makes you feel any better, I've got wonky hair too. Half of it is wavy and the other half is...Just plain crazy. That's why I wear it in a bun all the time.
PS~J.Crew is having an additional 40% off sale on sale items!

  28. My hair is wonky too :p I have very curly hair and I am 100% Chinese, LOL. My parents both have pin straight hair as does my grandparents and other immediate families. You are not alone! In fact, a bit of wave is unique :D embrace embrace!

Hmm, for warmer clothing that's fresh and hip... I think J Crew has a good selection of pretty sweaters but their prices are a bit high. If you have an outlet nearby, that would be a good place to start ^_^ Or good ole TJ Maxx :D

Hope you are enjoying your new job!
