What I will (not) miss

Just so that we're all caught up, I'm moving this week.  Relocation from the city that some people call the Armpit of the South to the city that calls itself the Los Angeles of the South <insert rabble rousing debate here>.  To try to be fair to both cities, we're going to play a game of "What I will miss vs. What I won't miss" on my blog and act as a semi-persuasive spokesperson for both places.  Come visit - really do!

Round 1

I will miss the humidity.  Lotion?  What's that?  My skin stays hydrated, regardless of what type of moisturizer I don't use, and keeps the people here looking younger than their years.  Same goes for any leather conditioning you would have to do - on your car, purses, shoes, etc.  And chapstick - not necessary.  Yes, it's that humid.  Also, here in Houston, I'm never scared of touching doorknobs, no matter how aggressively I shuffle over the carpet.

I won't miss the humidity.  Guess what?  My hair is straight in Dallas.  And you can use a towel in the morning and it'll actually dry out the same day.  I won't have to shower after taking a stroll outside in early March or scurry hamster-like along in the tunnels during the summer because it's too sticky to go outside to grab lunch.

Round 2... to be continued

Comments

  1. I used to live in Dallas.
And I loved it there. That is all.
(though I hear Houston has AMAZING food spots).

  2. I have never ever been to Texas, although strangely enough, several of my classmates from high school have ended up attending uni there, so it could be the calling that I need to visit. Hope that your move goes well! xx

  3. I had a love/hate relationship with Houston's humidity as well. For the first 3.5 years of college, my hair and my skin just could not take it - my hair looked like a big mushroom and my skin was just SHINY. And then? The last semester, I had fantastic skin, and I learned to grow my hair just long enough to put it in a ponytail. For the next few years, whenever I came back to LA, everyone raved about my skin.

When I moved to SF, I had the driest skin EVER. I aged the seven years that I lived in Houston in just 7 months. Good thing I've moved away from SF, but you know what? Strangely, am missing the humidity and shiny skin!

Can't wait to read more about the things you won't and might miss!

  5. moves are always kind of exciting, i hope it all goes smoothly!!

  6. Hope your move goes smoothly! I so don't like the humidity here in NJ/NY in the summer because I already need a shower again when I reach the train that brings me to work in the morning ;)

  7. HA! Yeah, I've never really loved humidity--if for no other reason than my hair loses all hope whatsoever.

As for Dallas, I haven't been there since I lived there for a couple years--we won't mention just how long that is. Eek!

With that, Happy Trails to you!

  8. Armpit to LA....I die!
Never knew humidity conditions change that much in that state. Good to know.

  11. My husband used to live in Houston and is trying everything possible to get me to consider moving there. I don't know if I can handle humidity worse than what we have here in Georgia. LOL!

  12. Lol! I haven't been to Houston, but I really like Dallas. It's a pretty fun place... And apparently not humid?

  13. The humidity in Philly usually goes up to 100% in the summer months, which is unbearable. Thankfully we have crazy cold winters full of static electricity to off-set it! Can't wait for round 2, Rooth. xo

  18. i used to visit the south once in awhile and i loved/hated the humidity too. my hair definitely hates it, a lot. good luck!

  19. oh I understand all about the love hate relationship with humidity. But I think the hate wins. I actually like wearing lotion - it's a little treat taking the time to put it on.

  20. My skin loves humidty but my hair hates it! Can't win. Good luck with the move.

  21. A former boss (an engineer) called Houston the ugliest city in the US...his architect assistant disagreed. I don't know enough about the city to offer an opinion on that. But I know I don't like humidity. I'll take the dry skin, dry leather and looking old beyond my years. When you look older, people don't ask you to help them move. (Heh-heh--but I'd offer to help you.)

PS - I like the idea of the tunnels.

  22. Every time I go out west, my hair is perfect. PERFECT. Here in NC, my hair is a crazy frizz ball mess.

  23. OMG Rooth, you will not miss the humidity. My fiance is from Houston so we go there to visit from time to time, and yes... I like my hair straight and skin not sticky :)

  24. This is fun. Looking forward to round 2. Also I hope the moving is going well for you.

  25. Lol oh man, my hair constantly has the frizz!

  26. I experienced humidity in Houston. Once.

As an Arizona girl, I nearly died. My reaction was very "WHAT IS THIS? WHY IS MY SKIN WET?"
